dad'gum. I wish my club had a website..... jesus christ thats awesome that the olympics does this for us.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben
My club has had an influx of calls for beginner classes. Also two more school clubs want to get started. The best part though, is that a local TV station may be doing a story on "Women In Fencing" Yay!!!!!
Because of the American medals, a local news channel did a lunchtime spot on fencing and had our club owner do an interview, then invited two of our cadet fencers down to the studio to fence in the background during the newscast, showing about a minute of a dry foil bout. They gave a complete plug to the club, with phone number, class info and prices. They were getting ten calls an hour after that for a while. Website traffic shot way up. Great promo.
Our club was profiled in a "where in the area can you try Olympic sports" roundup in the local paper -- the story was planned in advance, but by luck it ran the day after the women's sabre medals, and we've been getting calls ever since. We also had 30 or so kids turn up for HS clubs that had 10-15 last year. In both the school clubs and the "real" club, there also seems to be a lot more interest from women and girls, which we've definitely been wanting.
