Age for beginning

Hi, I am considering enter into Fencing. With a body in not very bad shaped but not very trained and at 38 years of age, I wonder what can I still expect from this idea. Can anyone discuss on age span for this sport, both for early and late comers? Thank you very much

Hi! Age span for this sport for competing is perhaps 8 to perhaps 90. Good ages for beginning are the same.

I started at 43. Others have started fencing much later than that. It is a tough sport to learn, but it is possible to become competent at it no matter what your age, if you are willing to work.

Try it!

I am 52 and started fencing when I was 51. What you can expect is to have fun and do well. Fencing is a good aerobic exercise and good for toning the lower body. I hope you will find there is a social aspect to it as well. As you progress, you will touch on the study of so many things. ( From cross training to history.....to many to name.) There are really to many benefits to name in a short response.

As for competing, in two more years (which is time to become proficient, if you apply yourself) you will be able to compete in the "Veterans Class " in larger tournaments. ( should you desire to compete. This means you would fence women that are 40 to 49.

Hope that helped a little.
