Bruce Lee fought in his own battles. Just because he did not have the opportunity to go to war does not mean he wasn't the greatest fighter of all time. Case and point- according to you, Elvis was greater then Bruce Lee. Maybe all those martial arts lessons did pay off....

More to the point, unless you are Nostradamus the "of all time" part is something you cannot possibly know, because we only have records and eye-witness accounts fairly recently. Think there may possibly have been someone better over the last four thousand years?

It's possible, but you have to remember that fighting as a skill has progressed endlessly over thousands of years. Bruce Lee took it to even the next step. And then beyond. He was able to defeat anyone. There is no master of any martial art alive today who can defeat every other martial artist who has the balls to challenge him.

no....really...I've had many heros in my life...you can't just go with one because one person's inspiration may not cover all aspects of your life.

In fencing it's Young Ho Kim -- specifically his performance in the gold medal bout at the 97 worlds.

In music it's Wayne Downey, music director for the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps...I was NEVER better than when I was in the corps 20 years ago.

In life? Currently Jessica Lynch, because of what she endured when she was NOT trained for it, alone, serverely injured, etc., and for how she's focused on her recovery, her charitable foundation, and how she's dealt with the media attention and demands on her time...far better than almost anyone else I can mention...

But he was the best at "fighting" in a restrictive environment. Think indiana jones when the guy starts spinning the swords around.

Fighting bruce lee in a big empty room with no weapons and maybe he was the best. Drop him in the trenches during wwi and I doubt it.

So, you think the best modern kendoka would beat Musashi?

Maestro Martinez would beat Carranza or Narvaez?

Kolobkov would wipe the floor with Nadi?

He was able to defeat anyone.
No way to know that, because he didn't fight everyone.

A hero is someone who provides inspiration, particularly when times get tough.

And the title of "hero" is not decided on by the hero...it's bestowed by the public.

I don't know what modest mouse is! Sir Issc Brock was a hero from the US/Canadian agression back in the early 1800's. Basically, if it wasn't for some of his unique ideas, and prowess on the battlefield, Canada wouldn't exist. He treated first nations with due respect, and before Michigan was turned back over to the US, he had promised it to the 6 nations as a Native land. He had a grasp of the common man's issues, and respected all people. Add this to his ability to win even when hopelessly outnumbered makes him a true hero.
    Here endeth my little speach!
