A fencer COULD make it on his own, but he needs a coach for guidance, support, and as a "propaganda" tool.

Mention should be made of the Canadian women's epee team, which qualified out of the Americas zone over the US and has the very impressive Sherraine MacKay. She's ranked 8th in the world, has won a world cup, placed 3rd in two others, and 5th in another, so should thus be considered a serious contender for a medal.

(I also see she placed 9th place in 6 world cups! 6 of them! Can you imagine the frustration of missing out on the L8 six times? It does show however that she almost always has a very good seeding round.)

Really? Waller is an absolutely fantastic fencer, but I've never seen him coach. Who has he trained?

I think her frustration was that she spent most of the season injured -- you'll notice that those world cup medals have all come late in the season. Expect Sherraine to do very well ...

Bac Taus books are very good. used to be a four volume set but he has since combined it into one big volume.
A bit dated on some subjects though.
