You may fence in any tournaments held in the US except qualifiers and championships tournaments. Unless, of course, you have US citizenship or US permanent residence, AND you have not been on a foreign National team within the past three years.

We've had foreign fencers compete in US tournaments on a regular basis. The Duel In The Desert has Ingo Grausam come by every year to win the event. I don't think he's going to win it this year.

Nope. You can be a foreign national and compete in local events in your division. You must join the USFA in order to do so, and can earn US weapons classifications. Point...Edew mentioned Duel in the Desert. The young man who won the Open sabre at that event last year is David Cabouat. He is a French national (former French Cadet champ) amd earned his "A" classification at that event.

However, because he'n not a US citizen, he was ineligible to compete in sectinal or national competitions.

Check with your divisionbal leadership (Where are you going to be fencing, btw?)

    Let me restate again:

Any fencer from any country may compete in any
NON-qualifier or NON-championship tournament. You need either an FIE international license, or a USFA membership. You may obtain a USFA membership even if you are not a US citizen.

Only US citizens or US permanent citizens may compete in qualifiers or championships events, PROVIDED they were not a member of a foreign NATIONAL team in the past three years.

    G7,

Go to http://usfencing.org and find the link for Clubs and Divisions. Click on the link for ther state you're in and contact the approproate division officers for their schedule.

As far as applying on-line, not sure. However, I think there's a printable application form on the National site. Many divisions allow you to sign up at your first event. It's $40 for a competitive membership.

    Good luck!

There is no on-line registration as of this moment. Maybe in the next two or three years.

I doubt there will be many events available to you come April, May, and June. At that time, most divisions and sections will be running their qualifiers and championships events. There may not be too many non-qualifier/championships events during that time.

Whereabouts in the US do you plan to be in? Different parts of the US will have different local schedules, of course. As Sam wrote in the post prior to this, go to usfencing.org and click on Clubs and Divisions and go to the appropriate one (related to where you may be living then). Some may post a schedule already, but I doubt that would be the case for most divisions.

If you're still in the Philipines come February or so, you might consider attending the Hawaii Open in Honolulu (Oahu island). It's a fairly well-attended event, with competitors from Japan and the US attending.

Won $1000 last year, so I'm tempted to attend again.

hi edew! hi purple fencer! thank you for you replies. guess what? evan from the duel in the dessert says that our team could join we just need to register with the USFA during the tournament. and we need to undergo with equipment checking but that's ok. but i'll still visit the division in which i'll be staying.
ey edew! if you're going to join the honolulu competition, good luck!

Hi G7...try the Hawaii Open. It's close to home and as far as I know, if you have an FIE membership you should be able to participate. Last years competition was pretty good. Japanese fencers gave a good show. The Hawaii Open would be a great venue for a major international fencing competition. Maybe more international and mainland competitors will come in the future. If you want to get in touch with the Hawaii Division e-mail me and I'll get you the information.
