RL, I am making assumptions of your characture, so I could be wrong (forgive me if I am), you just seem very biased to me. I don't like biased people, nor do I like chauvinists.

Sarah, I'm not saying there aren't any pretty fencers. Just very very few compared to other sports.

I happen to dissagree with that view, from what I've seen most sports (fencing included) are on equal ground.

Prove it then? That sounds like a very childish response. Would you like me to take a general survey of the top five sports, as well as fencing?

First of all, we are dealing with popularity, and fencing is not one of the best known sports, therefore most of the sports that you are comparing fencing to has a larger amount of followers, which allows for prettier people. This is shown in Hawai'i. Hawai'i gets loads of tourists, and when you have a lot of people there are bound to be more pretty people. (that is why a lot of people think that Hawai'i hold's the world's prettiest people)

Second; unfortunately, I do not have the resources, nor do I have the money to check out the beauty queens of the sporting world.

Thirdly, people's views of beauty changes dramatically from person to person. If you look through this thread you will notice that the majorities consensus is that fencing has just as many beauties as other sports. I shall assume that your view of beauty differs from most of the fencer's views.

And lastly... most people (except for a select few who are blessed) looks wonderful after a hard fencing workout. I've always hated how I look when after I've fenced, and my friends complain of the same things.

Why are you arguing? Why not prove it ReverseLunge style? Take an extremely limited poll ...

    Fencer: http://olympics.reuters.com/sport/fe...8T174546Z.html
    Non-Fencer: http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/fe...620000922.html

Maybe repeat 2 or 3 times, with other attractive female fencers, and unattractive females from a variety of other sports.

The fact of the matter is that the only *real* proof anybody can manage here would be to conduct an extremely expensive study ... hold on ... it's entirely possible that the Canadian government might be willing to fund this ...

Exceptions test the rule. The original proverb was in Latin, and the word probat got misconstrued. It's "prove" only in the sense that armour used to be proved by shooting at it with a crossbow or musket: if it wasn't pieced it survived the test. Rules, OTOH, generally do not survive exceptions.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled RL-game, already in progress.
I was just going to post that exact same point! Great minds think alike... However, "to prove" even in English, used to mean "to test" - as in "the proof [i.e. test] of the pudding is in the eating". So we don't really need to blame the Romans...

    What about curling?

Fencing has much better looking people than curling. (apologies to all those curlers out there)

so? They look like they're enjoying themselves! Jesus man! Get a life! you don't need to pick the 'ugliest' of a sport as an example, either. There are tons of fencers out there who are moderately good looking, a lot who are just beautiful, and some who aren't. The main thing is that they enjoy themselves anyway.

Yeah but this thread isn't about whether they are enjoying themselves or not. Are you actually saying these girl aren't pretty?

I am saying these girls aren't the prettiest girls I've seen.
(However, before the crowd kills me, this is no slight to them as a person.) So yes, these girls "aren't pretty"
