Influence of a sportprestation on the amount of TV-attention

Little question: Now that Lance Armstrong wrote history by winning the
"Tour de France" for the 6-th time, is there (or was there) a lot of TV-attention on the cycling sport in the US? If so, could this also be happening with fencing?

If not, how can get fencing more attention by TV, if good prestations by athlethes doesn't work?

The Tour de France is a major World sporting event. Cycling is a pro sport and has decent popular appeal in Europe and Latin America. Fencing is not even close and I never see it getting to that level. I could see the sport building numbers based on TV attention from the Olympics but not sure about major media stars (although Sylwia G. might have a chance with her looks -> she should think of coming here to the States. LOL!).
