    Pomme de Terre

As an outgrowth of Sorcroft's post, who here's planning on fencing at the Pomme de Terre? What events?

I'll be there doing open epee and sabre (YEA!, they finally moved the sabre to a different day so I don't have to decide between the two any more).

I'm probably going to go, even though it's quite a drive for me - my kid goes to school up there and I'm hoping she'll drive up with me and keep me awake on the highway, even if she doesn't fence it. It's a nice tournament.

I'll be there, fencing the open epee. Having some trouble getting an epee team together unfortunately. I fenced the team last year and it was a blast. I highly reccomend the event, and the tournament as a whole to everybody. By far the finest in the North East.

I am going to fence Open epee and hopefully Team Epee. That is if we can get a team together in the next couple of days.

I am also planning to drag a friend along to do Open and U Epee. Unfortuneately it si 5 hrs form her parents house to mine in NH (where we will be staying) so I will be doing lots of driving besides fencing.

As indicated in my other post, I will be fencing in it as well. Unclassified foil. I'm hoping to get my rating there, which I rightfuly earned 2 years ago but never got due to a mistake by the guy running it(the very same instructer who jiped me on my USFA membership). So I want my "E", it's long overdue.

Do they really have a tourney named after potatoes? How unique.

    See you there.

    To sorcroft,
How did you compete in the previous two years without a USFA licence if this year is the first time you have applied for a USFA membership?
Secondly, within a two year period since then, you weren't able to earn an E based on the fact that you thought you deserved it two years ago?

    To Drew42,
Check out www.neusfa.org and you will see info for the Pomme de Terre.

I didn't compete for the past 2 years in any compititions. This will be my first in 2 years. I just recently got my own equipment.

I'm hoping...hoping to fence, but more than likely I'll be photographing the event again.

Evan Photographing? No way... that would never happen ... I'll be there... probably more as a spectator than anything else...

Hey, if I Sallie Mae didn't come calling each month to shake the spare change out of my pockets, perhaps I'd be competing instead of shooting photos. Then again, maybe if I can start selling some images, I can start accumulating the necessary equipment. I could switch weapons and perhaps try epee, but the prospect of facing Taro would be just slightly unsavory :-. Then again, I'm sabre all-the-way, having crossed over to the dark side many years ago.

In the meantime, I'll keep developing my stock collection, taking photos, while Sharon Kaliouby and other UMass alums continue to give me a hard time.

I should be there next Saturday and Sunday, so feel free to seek me out and introduce yourself.

    Evan

Did anyone go there last year?
How many people competed? I think I read that this is the largest event in the Northeast (not the USFA Northeast division) US.

I went last year. They had a good number for the women's open sabre, and the quality was fine, though not the level of an NAC; they run the opens like an NAC, including only promoting a percentage out of the pools (which can be annoying if you've traveled a good bit to compete, but then there are the U events); they usually have good referees, and I know of several excellent ones who have been asked to referee this year. They do a good job with the bout committee. The Brandeis gym is a nice space and it wasn't too hot in there.
