| US Results from 2002 World Champs Here is the US Fencing Press Release:

Below follow results from all individual competition at the 2002 World
Fencing Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, Aug. 17-23.
Keeth Smart (24, Brooklyn, N.Y./Westbrook Foundation) has had his best World
Championships ever, finishing tenth in the men's sabre competition. He
defeated Michel Boulos of Canada and Balazs Lengyel of Hungary before being
defeated by Hungary's Zsolt Nemcsik 15-13, who is currently ranked 6th in
the world. Smart now moves to eleventh in World Cup standings.
Sada Jacobson (19, Dunwoody, Ga./Nellya Fencers/Yale '04) finished in 5th
place in the women's sabre competition. She reached the quarterfinals by
defeating Tsz-Kim Chow of Hong Kong 15-13, and was defeated in her attempt
to reach the medal round by Russia's Elena Netchaeva, 15-9. Teammate and
sister Emily Jacobson (16, Dunwoody, Ga./Nellya Fencers) was defeated in her
attempt to reach the round of 16 by Great Britain's Louise Bond-Williams in
a heartbreaking 15-14 bout. This is also her highest individual World
Championships finish.
