    Fencing in North L.A.?

    Howdy Ya'll

I'm gonna be working for a week or two in Valencia, CA and was wondering if I might be able to do some drop in fencing somewhere near there... Any suggestions??? Thanks.

    Space,

There isn't a club in Valencia itself (Salle Magic Mountain...THERE'S an idea!). However, depending on your weapon, the closest ones are...
    Foil -- SwordPlay (My club)
Epee -- Swords Both in Burbank
Sabre -- Hmmmm, the only sabre club is Falcon, but it's on the westside. a long distance from Valencia.

Go so http://socalfence.org. There's a list of salles on the front page.

    Maybe I'll see you!

BTW, if you're interested -- although it's about a two and a half hour drive south -- there is one final official comp in San Diego (actually, Carlsbad, about 45 minutes north of SD) on June 10. Three weapon open, unclassified sabre and team foil.

    Yeah, and the epee's usually pretty strong...a B1 even usually...sometimes an A1. You'll get a workout.

    Space;

I just found out that the San Diego tourney will NOT be held at Mission Bay HS. it's going to be in Carlsbad...about 45 miles north of San Diego (and thus, closer to both of us!)

Unfortunately, the San Diego Division website has not been updated recently. I;ve sent an email to one of the organzers. I'll post the location here when I get it.

    Space,

Here're the directions from Midi Cox to Stagecoach Park for next week's tourney. Keep in mind that you'll be on the 5 freeway damn near the entire way there! Barring traffic difficulties, time from Valencia to Carlsbad is probably going to be about 2 hours. Event start times are:

    Open foil 9:30
    Open sabre 11:30
    Open epee 12:30
    Team foil 2:00
    Unclassified sabre 2:00

    Sam.

The directions to Statecoach Park are pretty simple for you.

Exit I-5 at La Costa Ave. (This will be the last Carlsbad exit going
South, after Legoland and Palomar Airport Road and Poinsettia.) Go east
on La Costa, which will be a left turn. It will seem like a long way, but
just stay on La Costa as it winds around. When you get to Rancho Santa
Fe, go straight, which means pay attention to the lane you are in. La
Costa will get to a point where you have no choice but to turn right.
That is Camino de los Coches. When you make the turn, you will see
Stagecoach Park on your right. Continue to the first signal light. La
Costa Canyon High School will be to the left and the entrance to
Stagecoach Park will be to the right. Continue down the hill and park
somewhere in the lot. There is one building and we will be in it. When
you enter the building, go to the right and then to the back to find the
gym. We will have some signs up.

We look forward to seeing you.

    Midi

Thanks for all the info on the Tourney... I'm still hopeful that I will be in the area when the date comes around...
