Maybe, but there is also that very nice and darned good fencer, Carolyn Wright. She has the full attention of my daughter!! I really really hope your prediction comes true!!

Take me out of the top four in the IA WS, Eric --I trained like a maniac last year to finish the way I did, and have been reaping the rewards of overuse injuries ever since. I'm concentrating on the Over-50 this year and on looking good in the Over-40 WS demo in the Veteran Worlds Labor Day weekend. If I'm top half in the I-A I'll be content.

    NEXT year. <g>

I would put Emma Barratta in the top spot if she maintains her confidence, or Lauren Philips if she's in the mood. Susan Cox is good and very experienced and would do well with this field. Becca Ward did a nice job in Reno and has the potential, and I agree with Mo that Carolyn Wright is VERY smooth this year.

Carly Wells was in the top 8 last year. Young kids who will do it some time soon if not this time are Tiga Schuepp, Daria Schneider, and Eva Jellison. The Wieronski girls are on the edge.

It's not as strong a field as I expected seeing that the Div I Nationals was separate this year; I thought a bunch more of of the stronger teenagers would be doing the I-A in combination with some junior and cadet events.

Tiga, Daria, and Eva are all great. But because I am in their division I only see them fence divisional stuff. So I was just wondering, nationaly, how good are they.

For DivIAME, i'd put Cerutti first.

    1. Cerutti
    2. Ordody
    3. Viviani
    4. Rostal

    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

I've fenced all three of them. Tiga and Daria are both competent national-level fencers who have done respectably in Div. I NACs. Eva so far excels more in the age-group events; I don't know how many senior events she does. Basically, the only thing holding them back at this point is that they are very young and this limits their game.

All three can beat me on a good day for them. I used to be able to beat Daria and Eva handily, but last year (was it last year or the year before?) Daria, with some good strip coaching, took me out in the DEs.

Carolyn Wright, on the other hand, doesn't have to break a sweat to beat me. Not any more.

Yeah, edew, I'd put Carolyn up there somewhere. She's good. Saw her at JO's and beat me easily. I'd like to make top four, but I looked at the list and saw a lot of fencers who beat me regularly.

Bruce vail fences at my club and he is very good, but i would have to put Karlos Burno ahead of him. He doesnt have alot of money so he never goes to nacs but he beats Bruce everytime he fences him.

For D1AMS ( the only one I know squat about ):

    1. Crompton
    2. Efstathiou
    3. Williams
    4. Zich

Yeah, after checking out the Div II and Div III, I realized that Lee and Igoe aren't that great. However, I think Berkowsky should still be considered. I didn't see Zich in the list. Maybe I missed it, otherwise I'd definitely add Zich into the list. Williams is good, but I think he might get stuck with a stronger fencer when he gets to top-8. I think Williams is definitely a top-8 fencer for this Div IA. Don't know if he can make top-4.

Eric- The Crompton fencing in SC is Adam not Andre.

    My top 4:
Crompton (repeating his title from last year)
    Efstathiou
    Stetsiv
    Williams

-B (who only wishes he could repeat last year's performance but finds that somewhat unlikely)

I dunno--you could do it again, looking at the list. You have the Diacous, Efstathiou, Zich, Crompton, Berkowsky, Tracey, Williams, and a few others who are up-and-coming and might make a breakthrough at this, but a lot depends on the table and all them are beatable. Berkowsky has limitations and is still very young; I could beat him last year though I probably can't this year.

I was watching at the Div I event at the Liberty Cup last weekend and watched the top fencers (Lee, Spencer-El, Hagamen, Morehouse) dis-assemble some of the people in the I-A--a couple of the Diacous, and Zich.

Incidentally, Spencer-El won by one touch over Lee, with Shimshovich directing; there was discussion over the call on the last touch but from where I sat it was right. It was a neat bout--Ivan's athleticism against Akhi's smooth, small footwork and relaxation. Even my husband the non-fencer enjoyed watching it.

I'd like to chime in on behalf of the State of Michigan and say that our own Anne Austin will be in the top 5 of D1AWF. Don't know exactly where, but in the top 5.

GO, ANNE! WE'RE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU! (Including all of the SChoolcraft Club)

I'm amazed that no one picked Viviani for epee. He seems like the likely victor to me. He won it before, and will most likely be the highest seed, no?

It seems that Nicole Mustilli is in Div 1A Women's saber. She is not exactly chopped liver either!! It should be one heck of a competition. It is kind if kewl that not all the really big names will be in it but will be more for the not-so-well-known to duke it out.
So much depends on pools and all the other who is fencing well, who is not, who came from out of no where, if the referee has even a clue, ETC.
Annika Davis will be there too. The Women's 14 and Under Women's Saber on the last day should be one heck of an event too.
There are so many of the women moving out of it this year and the competition should be quite fierce. Caitlin Thompson, Eva Jellison, Annika Davis, Daria Schnieder and Zuzanna Zitek will all be wanting to go out with a bang!! (There of course will be some of the younger girls not wanting them to do so)
What about Under 16 Women's Saber and Junior??

Huh - How the heck did I miss her name? Yeah, Nicole should win it if she does it. She's smart, experienced, fast, and GOOD.

I think those names weren't on the list when I first saw them. Of course I'd put Viviani's name on there. As would I put Mustilli. I don't think Anika Davis is going to make top-4. I think you're thinking of Annika Eiremo, but her name's not in the Div IA list.

Anne Austin's pretty good. I think she can make top-8. Top-4 might be a stretch.

Maybe we should wait until USFA has a final list. Then we can put the money (as it were) on the table.
