| D'Artagnan.... join the dark side.... Hee hee, that's just my way of saying I performed a perfect wrist flick in Epee tonight.
I don't know about foil, but I like the boxer stance quite a bit in Epee. That added mobility, the ability to bounce on the strip as well as launch quick attacks is quite effective in Epee.

| No worries, bebop, I don't know how to flick, and won't for a long time yet... and if anything, I put too much angle on my feet, so I don't do the boxer thing either... (also for the record, I use a french foil and keep my back hand up and etcetera etcetera etcetera...)
So you're not alone in what you do, although I, for one, am not going to join the crusade.
Oh well. |

| I saw D'Artagnan's flick...it was great...not his flick, his face! When we told him what he had done, he didn't know what to do...ask for a Priest or fall on his sword! The pure can be corrupted so easily! Today..a flick... Tomorrow...he will be rolling in the gutter with the rest of us!

| HAHAAAA!!!
Sounds like me when I properly did a parry 4. I have this tendency to sorta swing my foil around and parry at the ground. Twice I actually did a propper parry 4 in an actual bout, and both times I was so shocked I just stood there in my parry position and let the other person disengage around and hit me. |

BTW, even if can flick, it doesn't mean you have to score every point by a flick hit. There are high level fencers doing nothing but flick even against very junior fencers. I think that is absolutely unnecessary unless they could not do a simple point-in-line/ disengage attack properly.
About the boxer stance, actually, my coach has been teaching me a similar stance 10+ years ago i.e. with the front and rear feet at less than 90 degrees. As for the height of the guard (bending of knees), it really depends. Generally, an epee fencer would adopt a more erect posture than his foil counterpart. But really, you have to try and see what really works for you. |

| Hehehehe, yeah, Phil got a kick out my reaction.
I do not know why, but I really get aggressive and let loose in Epee. My foil is very controlled and traditional. You put an Epee in my hand and I go nuts.
Sorry guys, don't expect me to exchange my blue lightsabre for a red one just that quick. I have my days that I let go, but then I go back to foil! From everything that I know, I should be more conservative with Epee and aggressive with foil, but it just doesn't work that way with me.
Don't worry Bebop, I'm not going anywhere quite yet.

Interesting...you should be aggressive and let loose in foil, and controlled and "traditional" in epee. You can't be too loose in epee. It's just too easy to nailed on a lucky hit. In foil, because the priority goes to the attacker, if you're controlled, then you're less likely to be attacking wildly, and so your opponent will take advantage of that and attack you.

| I'm not sure what the deal is.
I think it has to do with the fact that I am very frightened/worried/sure I will get parried if I don't make my attacks very precise in foil.
In Epee, I think to myself that whether he extends first or me, it doesn't matter. I am goin to have to work on staying focussed and controlled with Epee. Depending if someone from my club will go with me, I may fence Epee in Waco, Tx at Baylor tomorrow. I only found out about the tournament today, major short notice.
You are certainly right that getting wild allows my opponent to make lucky shots on me all day long. When I get wild, there is too much chance involved as to whether I hit first. That is something that would be quite foolish and stupid in a real swordfight, something I claim to strive for. I should read my own posts when contemplating my epee style.
