The only people I know of who are doing Roman sword and shield are some
members of Nova Scrimia, specifically Sala d'armi Bologna. You can contact
Marco Quarta through the website www.novascrimia.com. I haven't had a
chance to see their re-creations of Roman swordplay, but I have have the
chance to see and fence cane with them - it's a marvelous experience.

I know quite a bit about classical fencing, and while I don't know much
about Roman swordplay I have a fair degree of confidence that they're rathe=

different animals. True, all martial arts rely on time, measure and
velocity, but that doesn't mean that a gladius and a foil are handled in th=

same way.
