Array '05 Nationals. Meet up? I know it's waaaaaay early. But would anyone consider doing some kind of fencing.net meet-up at next years nationals? (somewhere other than the venue) It would be nice to put a face to the names. -

Array Perhaps we value our anonymity!
Seriously, it's fun to meet people in person that you have known only by avatar. Perhaps Craig should have a booth...with a digital camera/computer screen and nightly drawings for "public board member of the day" prizes. Array I like the idea of fencing.net having a booth set up, even if it was said in jest.
It would be a good place to hock things from the fencing.net store, which I assume will be much expanded by the time of 05 nationals. It would also be an interesting place to gather content, perhaps a meetup place for arranged interviews etc.
Fencing.net right between santelli and PBT?

Array I completely back any idea of a meeting for fencing101.com users. It'd be cool to meet all the people on the board. -

Array GROUP PHOTO!
sounds good hopefully i'll be able to make it -qualifing and craig should bring all the merchandice especially the dvd's. Fencing will always be a "for love of the game" sport.

Array Right now Craig is probably banging his head against the monitor and shrieking "NO NO NO!" but this might indeed be a valuable idea.
Attracts new members, sells merchandise, lets board members meet each other...I especially liked last year's Summer Nats policy at the Leon Paul booth: identify yourself by your Fencing.net avatar name, and get a shot of some odd English whiskey or scotch.
Since Craig lives in Atlanta, it should be identify yourself and get a mint julep! "Sometimes we, as coaches, get into that dictator mode where you just tell and you don't listen and you don't try to understand them." Tom Izzo, Mich. St.

I think it would be a great idea to have a booth everyone particularly since everyone stays in different hotels. It'd be nice to put real faces to the avatars. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to do this again. -

Since Craig lives in Atlanta, it should be identify yourself and get a mint julep! Now I have to learn how to make them!
It's a nice idea - remind me come April next year so that I'll actually plan for it at the right time.

Array Actually, there's not much to a classic mint julep...after all, it was primarily used as a socially acceptable way for southern gentlemen to sit on the veranda and sip nearly straight bourbon all day long during the summer. The mint sprig in the tumbler gave them plausible deniability.
The classic recipe: The classic mint julep as made in Kentucky, starts with a chilled silver mug or goblet filled with crushed ice. Dissolve 1 lump of sugar in a little water, fill mug with bourbon, add the dissolved sugar and stir well. Place 4 or 5 sprigs of fresh mint down into the ice. Array If I qual I'd go. But while nationals is fun, remember that there are a lot of folks who are newbie fencers who couldn't attend nationals because of not being able to qualify. Why not just make a Fencing Net Open tournament and let everyone in instead? -

Array Hell, I'll hopefully be at all of Gene's tourneys this coming year anyway. Might as well have a Fencing.net tourney.
