    Hat Trick at Summer Nats

Looking at the results, it appears Ward pulled a "hat trick" at Summer Nationals, taking home the gold medal in Y14, Cadet and Junior Women's sabre.

Brendan Meyers, Emily Cross and Nick Chinman have also been fencers who cut wide swaths during their early years, but was Ward's feat of winning national championships in 3 separate age brackets in a single Summer Nationals a historic event?

Any other fencers known to have accomplished a similar hat trick?

I remember Emily Cross at Nationals in 2000. She won Div IA, Under-19, Under-16 and placed third in Div I all in the same tournament. The semifinal bout against Erinn Smart in Div I was really close, too.

Jasmine McGlade did the same thing in Austin in 2000. Gold medals in Y-14 WE, U-16 WE and U-19 WE. Like Ward, she's also a former student of Gary Copeland at Northern Colorado Fencers.

You are absolutely correct...I had forgotten about McGlade, since she doesn't seem to be around much anymore.

Hats off to all three hat trick ladies!

She's been concentrating on college fencing this year, I believe.
