Re: [CFML] Digest Number 765

Hi Richard and all,

Some first-hand feedback:

Tri-Cities Academy of the Sword makes a very nice false ricasso. One of
my students has one and is very pleased with it, as well as the pommel
and grip. Their leather strap is also very nice. (Another student
purchased a strap from either Triplette or American Fencers Supply --
not sure which -- that was simply too short: the punched portion of the
strap was not long enough to form a pocket for the pommel, despite the
strap being made to do that.)

Triplette (unless they have changed recently) is selling a rather cheesy
"Italian" foil consisting of a French blade, an okay crossbar, a false
ricasso (separate from the crossbar) fashioned from a piece of copper
tubing (yes, a *round *false ricasso is difficult to grip properly), and
a plastic grip wrapped with thin wire to make it look like leather (the
wire tends to come off rather easily). All in all, not a very satisfying
"Italian" foil. The main problem is the use of tubing for the ricasso,
as there is no way to keep the grip and crossbar from rotating.

I am skeptical of anyone claiming to sell a France-Lames Italian blade.
It is my understanding that France-Lames is completely out of business.
(See press release from American Fencers Supply:
http://www.amfence.com/html/pr13.html )

I don't have any first-hand experience with any of the others you
listed, but the Negrini web site looks pretty promising. It appears that
one can order directly from them....
