Sometimes I've had students that actually didn't have any feel for where
their ankle was in an action. A couple in particular tried very hard to keep
the foot flat to no avail. One had a very stiff ankle that forced it over in
a lunge, which he just had to get working properly. The other wanted to
learn no matter what. With his permission, I taped a BB to the bottom/side
corner of his big toe inside the shoe. One or 2 lunges that rolled the foot
was enough to train him never to do it again. He's still with me after 9
years and has a very flat anchored foot. A few others tried it and it worked
for them also. It's a bit drastic, but ---
