    Rumors from the WC

    Rumors from the World Championship-

Did anyone hear that the fencers from the French team tested positive for doping? Is this a rumor? or is it true? And if this is true, why did they let them fence?

This has been discussed already here.

Laura Flessel tested positive for glucose coramine after a world cup in May.

She has been notified of it and basically asked for a retest. During that time she is still allowed to fence. If the retest is positive then the FIE will basically say what her sanction is.

She might have her result from the World Champs annuled, but most likely she will be prevented to fence in any FIE sanctioned tournament for 3 months and that's it.
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

Forgive my ignorance, but what is glucose coramine?

Basically it is a pill that contains sugar and salt.

There are several variations of it available on the market. Some of them contain Nicethamide (a member of the nicotinamide family). This is the chemical component that is restricted for athletes. It acts on your aorta and repiratory system to boost it (kinda like too much caffeine)
