I actually learned of this site form Sword Hobbit, who just happens to be my little sister. When I started fencing this semester, I decided registering on here prob. wouldn't be a bad idea...

I googled 'fencing discussion site' or something similar. I actually hadn't thought of finding a fencing forum before till I saw something on another random fencing website that made me think of trying to find one. So I googled it and this site was one of the top results!

How did I find you? Let me count the ways.

    Ok, well, 1 -
I was on fencing.net looking for some club/tournament info (nothing new there) and clicked on the forum link I have been lurking off and on, but now that I have more regular access to "my own" computer, I decided to make a name for myself... so to speak.

    Thanks for being here!

I found fencing.net through a link on my club's website!

I googled "fencing discussion" or something like that.
I thoroughly disapprove of duels. I consider them unwise and I know they are dangerous. Also, sinful. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet retired spot and kill him. -Mark Twain

    Hi!

I found this site via Google while looking for schedules when Olympic fencing would be broadcast, online or on broadcast TV. (I assume that the former is much more likely.) I was hoping that there might be some local match-watching parties/events (San Jose, Calif.), but I haven't found any yet.

My 13-year-old son has just started learning fencing (foil) at the California Fencing Academy in San Jose. I'm very impressed with its very nice and knowledgeable teachers, delightful students and pleasant & helpful parents.

I like to play golf and table tennis, and am a fan of watching/learning about many sporting activities. My son is OK at those sports, but has now entered the "anti-parent" stage, so he's not interested in anything that we like. He's very quick and in enjoying fencing so far. (It also is in sync with his interest in such Internet games as Runescape and Tribal Wars; Grrr.) He thinks he'd prefer saber, though I worry that his very slight stature might be greater disadvantage with that weapon than with the lighter and (seemingly) more precision-based foil. We'll see. He's getting a large dose of all the weapons at a week-long camp at CFA next week.

I was glad to see an Olympics prediction contest on this forum, and just submitted my (quite uneducated) guesses.

I look forward to using this forum to ask questions as they come up in my son's education and development (if any) as a fencer. :-) Thanks in advance for helping us.

This spring, I decided to take up the sword again after a nearly twenty year absence. I chose the Cabrillo Academy of the Sword here in San Diego. Rather than risk Ebay, I decided to buy new. I went searching for equipment prices and dealers on Google. Fencing.net's store came up and then I noticed the forums while checking reviews on equipment.

I fence Foil and Epee, but have yet to renew tournament competition. Epee is my favored weapon. My daughter attended a couple of classes with me when I did not have babysitting, and has now started taking Foil as well.

Perhaps the time has come to add the "Saw fencing on TV/live and thought it was really cool" option.

But how do they find it once they see it? Most people don't guess at urls until they get one that works.

I don't know his username, but I found fencing.net through one of our epeeists. Everytime an odd question came up (what are the dimensions for making a rewiring jig, will gaffers tape pull up a gym floor, best matieral to make an acetone pipe out of) he would always check fencing.net for me and get an answer. He moved away, and now I must go to the source myself.

I get a ton lot of traffic from Google, but it comes in all over the place.

I found out about Fencing.net from Erik Blank, whom I fenced against at the D and under tournament at FIA in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I was really tired from a Sabre bout with my worst enemy (which I won) and looked up fencing blog, in hopes of finding someone who cared I won. Low and behold, I found a site full of people who care about fencing.
