New Policy to Travel to Cuba (from the U.S.)

Did you hear about the new travel restrictions that the U.S. is putting on if you want to go to Cuba?

Once out of 3 years? Limited amount of days and money you can spend.

Can anyone verify? Would it count to athletes?

Bah... that would be pretty terrible if so. They -should- be making it easier to go to Cuba. After living in Miami for a while, I would like to visit Cuba. It's just too difficult to get there.

Mmm.. Cafe con Leche y empanadas.

Here is one exemptions from the US State Department Document.

http://inlineskating.about.com/gi/dy....gov/cuba.html

Amateur or semi-professional athletes or teams traveling to Cuba to participate in an athletic competition held under the auspices of the relevant international sports federation.

One report I saw was saying this is all because of November. Florida was a key state and a certain President wants those Electorial votes. It further reported that this has divided the Cubans in Florida. Those who have been here a while and don't have families and are VOTERS are for it. Those who have recently come over and therefore do not have their US citizenship and VOTING priveledge are against it.

Plus a large majority of the Cubans in Florida (Miami) are EXTREMELY PRO any kind of restrictions passed by the US against Cuba (ie. making it harder to travel there). The Cubans (again I am kind of generalizing, there are many exceptions) are so anti-Castro that traveling to Cuba wouldn't even be an option for them.

Also, I never found too much of a gap in politics between people who are citizens and non-citizens, but more so between the older Cubans and younger ones.

Onesandzeros, you may be right. I have no direct knowledge. I just was forwarded what I read, that those who had family and could not visit them were very upset. I don't have a strong opinion on the issue. I do have a strong opinion on the appearance of why Bush does things like this and the war in Iraq.

Would it be that he does it for the same reason that every politician does anything?
