Head feint

Found a cool move in foil: press opponent to his end of the strip then do a tiny tiny tiny step (each step takes about 4cm) marching attack with your blade straight up (12:00 position), keep going until you are within lunging distance and then bob your head (and upper body) forward without moving your hand, the opponent will see your upper body coming and anticipate an attack so will make his parry into air, allowing you to finish with a the real lunge, one tempo later.

To pull this off, your opponent has to feel that he can't retreat further (end of strip), nor can he counterattack (your steps are much to small and fast to find time). This is a cool move. Try it.

Sounds cool! How far away from your opponent should you be to still be able to pull off the attack without landing flat on the shoulder or pulling your elbow back?

trial and error mate. You obviously have to be within lunging distance. Try it. If your opponent reacts to the bob, it means he feels a clear and immediate threat of a direct attack, so your distance is probably right.
