    2004-2005 USFA NAC Schedule?

Anyone heard any good rumors on where and when next season's NAC and Nationals will be?

I heard a rumor a few months ago that they were interested in putting a NAC in Tampa. With the scheduled return of Vet Worlds to Tampa that might not happen or might be a year or two further down the road. Expect tentative planning schedules and lots of accurate rumors to be available after/during Sum. Nats.

problem with norteast is space is expensive. big space gets cheaper the farther south you go (but it wraps around when you hit florida, gets expensive fast)

Yeah, but what's an extra $20 entry fee when it saves $300 on airfare.

yeah, you might save the airfare. but someone else will. if you have to fly here if it were held here, i'd have to fly there if it were held there. the net airfare paid is approximately the same. the usfa will thusly prefer to pick the good but also cheap area as opposed to the similarly good but more expensive area.

Join fencing they said. See the country they said (or was that the military?). There is nothing in Fesno. There isn't a even a major airline hub there. Yuck.

If they're going to have a NAC and Summer Nationals in CA, and the other NAC in KS, they're going to have to put the last one on the East Coast. If what you say is true, EDew, I doubt they will put the Dec NAC in CA, too.

My understanding is that the Dec NAC is NOT in California. The January one is in Overland Park, KS. As of the last time I checked.

The Fresno one 99% sure. It's still possible that it'll be moved elsewhere.

Hey, Fresno is close to several really nice Indian Casinos and, um, only a few hours drive to Yosemite. And, if you don't mind the drive, there's wonderful Los Banos just about an hour north, and Casa de Frutas on Pacheco Pass near 101. Definitely worth a stop if you haven't been there.

Wonderful Los Banos? I've been through Los Banos plenty of times and don't see anything special about it. I'm hoping you're being sarcastic Everyone is right though, there isn't anything in Fresno. But since I'm only about 40 mins away, it'll be very convienent for me to watch the competition. At least it won't be in the summer, where the mercury just goes crazy. April weather not so bad.

What if 25% of the USFA were within shortish driving distance (say 4 hours) of one location and only 5% were within that distance of the other? Moving from a non-population center to a population center DOES change the number of people flying, not merely shift around who those people are. Put Nationals out in HI (as has been suggested once or twice on this board) and nearly 100% of the USFA would need to fly.

    true, true.
but my point is that the usfa would much rather defer costs onto the fencers. if they held, say, nationals in nyc, it would be within driving distance of a large percentage of the fencing population. but the logistics and the cost would likely be a nightmare. generally speaking, its cheaper and easier on them to pick places like charlotte or overland park or arlington for big events. given this, it doesn't really matter if they have a nac in charlotte or in overland park or arlinton. approximately the same number of people will likely be flying.
