good luck for you at the Pomme!
by the way, i wish i had been there to fence the winning team from last year "da Bear" (taro, ben and rick) who beat us 45-44...revenge !
wonder if they ll be there this year... | Taro didn't fence at all this weekend, although he was hanging around coaching all weekend.

| a clubmate of mine got 7th in WEO. I personally, blew my first D.E as the #20 seed finishing 34th. Foil...lets not talk about that. I was really impressed with that tournament though, almost 40 strips ALL with score/time display, atleast 20 with metal strips. That was fun (minus the 7 hour drive home)
also, why did darius get blackcarded. i know he didnt show up to the strip, but where was he?

| Having fenced like so much warmed-over crap in my pool, I was outside catching up with my favorite cousin, and her extremely cute friend.
Suddenly, a teammate appeared and shouted, "Darius, they're calling you, you've already got a red card!" I managed to break the world 40m dash record, arriving at the foil DE enclosure just as they made the announcement that I had been dropped.
Bummer...but while everybody else was slugging it out in the gym, I was enjoying the excellent food at Vinny Testa's, followed by the exquisite weather outside.
On an amusing note, somebody walked up to Jonathan Wai, who had been watching the women's foil, hadn't heard the calls, and told him, "Dude, they black-carded you!"

| lol, i saw him and thought "hmm was he the guy who just got black carded?" but i was right next to the tableau so i saw that it wasnt. I thought that maybe you did horrible and thinking that maybe you didnt make D.E's, you just left. Anyway, is that the first time you got black carded?

| Despite the extremely rare Bobby Knight moments while coaching, it's the first time I've been black-carded.
There was a suggestion that since I got a black card with nary an expletive or mask thrown, thus providing no entertainment for the masses, perhaps I might do penance by finding the worst ref in the room, and just randomly decking them.

| Oh I certainly could have helped.
I was a half second away from swinging my sabre, guard first, at his face myself.

| i have to admit that the group i went out to dinner with was, in fact, rather upset that there wasn't a more interesting story behind the black card.
of course, i was jokingly threatened with a black card all weekend by one of them, : D.... so, i mean, if he wanted an interesting story, he could have made one...

darius | In an effort to start a blatantly false, yet amusing, rumor, I'd like to circulate the story that Darius was black-carded for biting the head off a live chicken and spitting it at his opponent before a pool bout. |

anybody knows who will be in the BFC epee team? adrian? |
The epee team was Me, Igor, Arjun Tasker and Eric Lauga. Eric didn't fence the individual because he had a business trip, Arjun didn't fence the individual because he was directing, and I didn't fence the individual because I just didn't feel like it. ( I was going to try to use it as my practical to get certified as a ref, but that didn't happen.) Igor, as stated above, won the silver medal in the individual.
We won our first round against Brooklyn 45-44 in OT, our second round against Erik Hoopes, Richard Hoopes and David Abondaizio (sp?) 44-43 in OT (Eric turned it on after being down 43-40 with 30 seconds left) and Oldie's Best, consisting of Ed Mullarkey, Dmitri Krieger and Mikael Kolker 45-42. It was a fun tournement. |

About the closest I can come is throwing equipment. Was he fencing with the chicken? What kind of grips are allowed on chickens? Do they have to pass the weight and shims tests?!?

| I needed protein! And those bars taste like @%#%!
The referee was out of line for that call; the OTHER guy should have been carded. if you look at m.25 you will see that "Fencers’ clothing must be made of sufficiently robust material and be clean and in good condition." Bloodstains are not specifically mentioned in that rule, but that's the way they call it in Europe.

| MEO was an A2/B3 event, Igor re-earned his (already current) B04.

darius | As the teammate who ran outside to find Darius enjoying the weather and casually chatting with his cousin and her friend, I would like to note that the previous minutes had been spent frantically running around the venue with a half-dozen or so other teammates, trying to find the bastard. |
