Also, no I do not think that we as fencers should prance around like aristocrats and do fancy and flamboyant salutes ect. Someone made a good point a while back that the more elaborate the salute, the more you are being arrogant and showy. That certainly does not translate into more honor or respect being given to the person being saluted.

In spite of Darious' extreme sarcasm or achilles' hard edge, I do not see a problem with paying each other compliments on the strip. All I have to say is that if you act like this all the time, then I am happy not to fence with you. I enjoy the friendly competitiveness that my club has. We often salute each other three or four times in the course of a bout when our opponent makes a nice move. In spite of this atmosphere, I give my opponent no unfair advantage; I fence to win. I do not know where EpeeMike got the idea that I was suggesting that I said to correct the director in the conventional weapons. That is what the director is there for and he knows what he is seeing better than you do. Certainly, he will make mistakes, but he's just as likely to mess up your call as he is your opponent's call.

Tell me this, Mike, do you suggest that I not tell the director that my weapon went off because I hit the floor and not the foot? Should I keep quiet when I hit the bell of the weapon and it was improperly grounded? If you think that I should not speak up, then that is creating an unfair disadvantage to your opponent, rather than an advantage to him. Sure, the judge may giev you the touch if you don't, but is that fair?

Also, I never said that there aren't times when crisicism and unfriendly comments should be used. I too think that the f***ing redneck remark was in bad taste.

I'm not going to comment on the contents of personal communications between me and another member of the board. If they want to take it up with me individually, then fine.

On the matter of using all caps, a google search on "netiquette" for general info or "netiquette + all caps" for very specific references.

I'll close this thread now. If you want to continue it, feel free, but please go over to the water cooler to reopen it.

    Thanks,
    Craig
