Woud someone please explain exactly how to FIE rankings work and what the adjusted FIE team official ranking is? I'm doing a school project for fencing and I need to explain Olympic qualifying. Thanks!

I think that as a school project that this would be out of scope -- it is very complex. You can find the criteria on the FIE website (http://www.fie.ch)

Basically for Olympic qualifying the way it works for team is that the top 4 teams in the FIE rankings qualify, and then the winner of each zonal event also qualify. THat's the way the team stuff works I think.

not a zonal event for teams:

Top 4 teams are automatically selected (based on world cup team rankings over the 2003-2004 season), then the next highest team in each zone is also selected, making 8 teams for the competition. Note there are no teams for WF and WS. Individuals in the teams are automatically selected for the individual event. Further Individual selection then follows. See the FIE website for details.

nahouw: You're probably right...I'm not going to include all the details of the qualification system. No point in creating more confusion for my teacher. Also, I've already looked on the FIE site, I just couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks anyways!
