    a fantastically dumb question

Forgive me for asking stupid questions, but what are "reputation points", exactly?

Thank you for suffering a fool.

Hello, don't worry about asking, it's not a problem

If you click on the little box next to a post with the tick and the cross in (i think), you can either say you approve of a post, or disapprove. You can also post comments.

Depending on how many posts/reputation points you have, you will alter that person's reputation.

If you click on User CP, you will be shown how many reputation points you have (you start with ten). Below is shown how people have rated your posts. Green is positive, red is negative, and grey means the person who rated your post didn't have enough posts/points for it to count.

Much obliged sir. You've just saved quite a bit of head scratching.
