solo fencing

I fence epee (duh!!) and was wandering if there were some good excersises that i can do off the pista without another fencer to make me better with my sword work. I know i can do footwork excersises but what else is there. I think some martial arts use a sort of "form" system that can be practiced without a combat partner. Any suggestions?

The good ol' fencing dummy, the ball on a string, shadow fencing... All of those can help.

You can also do some physical conditioning. Try to work on power instead of strengh. If you want to do that, seek the expertise of a certified trainer, who will be able to assist you and come up with a program tailored to your condition and your needs.

Shadow Fencer
Someone want to know about shadow fencing??

It's fencing with an imaginary opponent!

Anyway, that's just my definition!

Hi

Sfunny. Just last night I held a pizza party and We viewed some tapes of the World championships just to get in the mood for the divisional epee event coming up. I found among all these tapes a 12 year old tape of myself ( boy was I skinny!) running myself ragged working on technique. I can't even count how many lunges I did. I taped myself lunging ,advancing, doing every parry, simple attacks, compound attacks. All the while making comments to my self , then stopping the taping ,viewing it, then correcting myself. Man was I driven. I guuess you could do the same.

Practice drills work. If you have some who wants to play along. I use them in my class. With my beginner fencers.
