Array Personally I think t-shirts like this do women no good at all. (However, comments like that of reverselunge do my principles against decking people no good either. )
We wouldn't like it if, as achilleus says, they reversed the sexes. We should be good fencers, good workers, good people, because we are good, not because we have put men down. OK, historically speaking the treatment of women hasn't always been ideal (understatement du jour!) but trying to be revenged by insulting men won't help fight the vestiges of sexism we still see from time to time, and makes us just as bad as men who put women down.
I think it sets a bad example to young women. You'd (that's a hypothetical "you"; this is not directed) be appalled if your young son expressed the opinion that men were better than women just because they were men, but you'd wear this t-shirt in front of your daughter.
It's not even a funny or clever joke! Bit pathetic really. Louweasel

Array Speaking of switching it around. For the iditarod (dogsled race), there was a t-shirt beings sold for a long time that read "Alaska: Where men are men and women win the Iditarod" and then had the dates that this one lady had won it multiple times. Later on, after she had stopped winning, and men were mainly doing well again they came out with another shirt, where it had a red line through the last part or something, and then some snide remark about men now. It wasn't exactly popular... -Sabresque

I also enjoyed... I tried to give you a positive rep point for it. But it told me I can't leave rep more than once for a comment. ... I was sad.

I think it is clever due to the fact that fencing is becoming what it is today because it is a sport that women can do well. Women are getting noticed because fencing, women ARE bringing it to a new level.
The success of Mariel also making the Olympic team seems to be what spurred the comment on it. It is saying, yes men invented fencing but women are right there in the mix.
Women are taking fencing from an "old boy" kind of sport into and exciting sport that definitely will be shown on tv during the Olympics. A friend will bail you out of jail,

Array Here, put the mens olympic team versus the womens olympic team.... see how that goes. I think that women can be great athletes, but men can be greater. Here, take an average man, and get him to his optimum level of physical fitness. Than take a woman and do the same. The man will beat the woman in a fencing match. Provided that they are both equal in skill that is. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -
Yes, men tend to be more athletic than women. This is a fact, proven scientifically. It is in the same way the women tend to be shorter than men.
Not ALL women are less athletic than men, it's only a tendancy. If the women's olympic team in any weapon fenced us, they'd probably win at least 90% of their bouts. BUT, if they fenced the men's olympic team, they would almost definately lose.
Then again, fencing is a very mental game, which slightly evens the playing field for women.
Reverselunge, you are OUT there. Only ugly women are feminists? There may be some fact behind that, but aren't you worried about the (female dog)-slap? -

Array Your argument is illogical, if the man always beats the woman its proof that they were not both at the same skill level, whatever their physical condition or background. Array If its true that they would almost definately lose, is it not possible that the reason is because of how they were taught to fence the men's team?
