Array Printing on Jackets & Lame's Where can one go to get their name printed on their jacket and lame.
Do I have to have it done at time of order or can I send it away after purchase? Or is it possible to do it yourself (with decent results)? Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Array I tried doing it myself. It looks awful. You can get it done at nationals. There may also be a sports shop in your area. Just be sure to show them the rules so they do it right. Any special differnces with a lame? Word of caution regarding printing on lame - the letters must not interfere with conductivity. -

Array Get a set of stencils of the right size and a dark blue fabric dye ( not paint ) pen from a crafts store. Voila.
Or if you're lazy, like so many of us , Marx Enterprises does it professionally. He is at almost all the NACs and will likely be at Summer Nationals. $20 for your name, another $5 for country. -

Why wait till nationals, when you are in the same city at Marx Enterprise.

Array Michael Marx coaches at NW Fencing center which isn't to far from me. That might explain why NWFC members have such nice jackets... / Lames... Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Mr & Mrs Marx, along w/my coach are organizing the fencing portion of the Oregon State games there at the end of this month. I guess I could always ask him then. Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Array No, Bob Marx (the brother of Michael Marx) is the guy who runs the lame/jacket/knicker printing biz. He doesn't have a storefront, but works and trains out of the NWFC in Portland, OR.
You can send stuff to be printed to him in advance, but with the mailing costs and time constraints, it generally makes much more sense to just have him do it at Nationals or any of the NACs. I'll be sure to bring it up at the State Games at the end of the month.

Array Lettering is easy. The prep isn't. I've used two methods: (1) dark blue permanent markers, with which to draw large, preconcieved, large block letters, (mine looked just fine), and (2) a stencil. Any t-shirt printing or sign shop will sell you a stencil, (or several), for a few $'s, set-up in the style you want.
Lay out your gear, use masking tape and a large paper border all around the stencil, a dark (blue?) no gloss paint, make even sweeping motions of light spray until you're satisfied, and let it dry. Mine have been perfect. Personally I like the pants leg, but who cares, so plan ahead on how you want your name read...letter orientation...and set-up the stencil that way.
Peel everything off and throw it away. Have a nice bout.

Array The many responses I have read along with some of my own research has prompted a few new questions.
1. Do the colors have to be dark blue or can I use another dark color? Like Black or dark red?
2. Do you have to use block lettering? Can you use another font as long as the name is readable
3. At a craft store I found a lot of fabric spray-paint/dye. Does anyone know if this stuff will work on a lame w/o affecting conductivity.
4. Correct me if I am wrong but the most you can have on your lame'/jacket is your last name & country of origin, right? Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Array Are there any particular types/brands of paint you would recommend? Is this just standard spray paint, or is it fabric paint? More importantly, any that you would not recommend? -

Explanation concerning names on uniforms
The fencer's last name must be legibly printed by hand or machine in dark blue capital letters not more than 10 cm high either
on the back of the uniform or lamé between the shoulders; or
on the front or side of the thigh of the "rear" leg; or
on a piece of fabric or lamé material that is firmly sewn to the uniform in such a way that it will not detach during fencing or catch the opponent's point. Fabric attached to the uniform must be the same color as the part of the uniform to which it is attached. Lamé material must be attached in such a way as not to alter the conductivity of the metallic vest or jacket.
Names printed on tape are NOT acceptable

Array Just note that international requirements are different from the usfa, and lettering on the leg is not acceptable Similar Threads -
