so looks to me that adidas has put out a new fencing shoe especially for the olympics...

    new shoes
but i dont know anything about them...

anyone know anything about the quality of these shoes?
or maybe a website that is selling them in dollars?

any help anyone has to offer would be just excellent....

It'll probably take a while for people to buy them and review them (and even longer for people to be able to report how long they hold up).

Right now, I'm just hoping this results in some of the older adidas models going on sale.

Adidas usually introduces a new line of shoes with each Olympic quadrennial (the green-stripes in '92, black stripes in '96, the asyms after 2000). This is the first I've seen of the new ones.

I don't think they are assymetrical.

I see no option for RH and LH.

    But I understand your point...

"A revolutionary inovation in fencing shoes, specifically developed and designed for the olympic games in (insert city here)"

I used the little english version button on the upper right. So much for all book learning.

Well, one could easily go to Yahoo Finance or Oanda and check the conversion. Or one could realize that they are the same cost in Euros as the 2000 versions and figure that they will be roughly the same $ amount at the local vendors as the 2000 versions.

Something interesting to note is that the higher level line is back to being called adiStars rather than Equipment.

According to http://www.xe.com the current exchange rate is 1 Eur = $1.22826. At Eur125 for the adiStars that works out to be ~ $153 plus shipping, plus whatever mark-up the vendor you use charges. Uhlmann has not yet updated their catalog to include the new shoes. I can't seem to get into the fechtsport-lagenkamp site right now to check on what they have.

Personally I don't really like the cosmetic design changes in either shoe. Maybe I'm just getting old (back in MY day fencing shoes looked like fencing shoes, not like those newfangled-who-knows-what-sport-you're-playing things kids these days are wearing....). :) Wonder if the non-cosmetic changes are worthwhile improvements?

There's also a hi-top version of the new adiStars available.

No doubt, the soles are specially formulated to work best on Greek pistes, and the material of the uppers has been selected to provide the optimal support and performance for the specific climate of Athens in August. These shoes will not work in any other place at any other time of year.
