    Newbie seeking guidance

Hello all, I'm a newcommer to fencing and I had a few questions for the collective wisdom of this board.
First, I was wondering how to get involved in the fencing community in NYC. Preferably ways that cost very little since I am the typical broke college student. I already have "dry" equipment.

The second is probably more complicated. My college upstate has a fencing club, but this last year, it hasn't been what i'd hope it would be. Professional instruction was all but absent and now I'm sure i've built up quite a number of bad habits and know next to nothing about the technical aspects of the sport.
Few of the club members have any experience, and those who do are more interested in poking each other rather than actually fencing.

I've been elected as Treasurer and am looking for ways to actually mold the club into something more professional and helpful to those of us who want to learn the sport.
Any suggestions on how I can reform this club?
    much appreciated

I can't help you all that much with the college fencing treasury thing... but there are a couple clubs in nyc thay are a little cheaper and more begginer friendly than the fc... but I'm at Brooklyn(and FAW), and we have a pretty good program that doesn't cost all that much. If you'd like, the website is www.brooklynfencing.com

About your club situation, you really need a coach. Without one, there is not much you can do. . .

Yeah, I figured the coach thing would be nessesary.
Hopefully the Student Council has some loose purse strings.

I've heard estimates from some of the more experienced people there, I've been told that a coach would run upwards of $50 for half an hour. Would this be a good estimate?

For a private lesson, one on one, it would be more near 15-30 ish. I don't know about teaching a class though.
