Array They sell it by the foot?!? I had to by my rope by the pitch.
Side note: what diameter is popular now for rope? My old and probably unserviceable rope is 11mm. People had just started going to 9mm when I faded from the scene (not by choice ) Quidquid latine dictum sit altum videtur

Array It's better to fade from the scene than fall from it
REI at least sells it both ways. Buy 200ft for $150ish, or craptastic cord for $.075/ft. Still comes out to about the same. I see an equal amount of 11 and 9 in stores these days, so I dunno. Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,

speaking of body chords, how come Sword Masters only has bayonet negrini's... -

Epee cords break about 1/10th as often in my experience as saber/foil cords. I still have one of two BG epee cords I bought when I first started fencing about two years ago and it still works well enough. The other one broke in the middle.
I also bought two of their foil cords and they did not last 4 practices before needing to be rebuilt. Cheap body cords are a waste of money IMHO for foil or saber. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Array If epee is a wise and frugal weapon, you've never bought a blade
But as my ex-team's ex-armourer, I agree completely. The damned bayonetts wouldn't even bloody well stay in the accursed sockets for fencing. Oh, and it didn't help that the team coach referred to me as 'weapons *****' whenever she wanted me to fix something Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,

Array You do realize that it could be arranged to continue having you referred to as WB on your new team, right? :)
Yeah, epee blades cost more, but they break less frequently. The start up costs of the other two can be significantly higher. As to bayonets it depends a lot on who's cords and sockets you use. BG cords (especially the opaque blue ones) and sockets? Yeah, you'll have problems. LP sockets? You should be fine. Then again, I just switched my sabres over to the Negrini italian bayonet, which NEVER come undone....
gojujay- Unserviceable for climbing perhaps, I bet it still makes for a good bodycord cover. :) Is it an interesting color at least?

Yeah, I was referring to BG cords/sockets. They suck with the suckyness of a sucktastic thing. Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,

Array For foil, go with the orange prieur cords. . . They work twice as consistently as my Uhlmann cords!!! Homestarrunner forever!~!

Heh....you might want to talk to Greg Schiller at Monroe HS in SoCal about that...much of his budget last season went into my pocket replacing epee blades...all broken by one guy (we call him the "Bladeinator"). He's tall, strong, but has a very bad tendancy to lunge, THEN not extend but PUNCH his weapon out, which ends up breaking blade bending upwards...I think he busted over a dozen..to to mention the foil and sabre blades...
Fortunately, he's graduating this year...then he cna start buying his own blades! -

Array I hope they weren't wearing those plastic things!!! That's my fencing pet peeve, guys who wear the plastic things. . . I don't know why it bothers me, but it does! Homestarrunner forever!~!

Array bodycords? I like them a lot, you do have to fix them, but they are easy to fix, unlike the Uhlmann's, and a lot more durable than Mr. Chen's. . . Homestarrunner forever!~!

Very true, and honestly I have absolutely no clue how that happens. I only realize I'm missing screwed when I pull out my body cord and there's a pin stuck in my socket. However that would be the only gripe I have about them. I second The0ne's statement. I've never owned an Uhlmann but in my experience trying to fix them is much harder than fixing my Prieur cords. Less little parts to lose...
I've had 2 of them for 3 years and the other one is probably even older and I've been satisfied with the performance. The one problem I've had is that there was either corrosion or something stuck between the ferrule? and the pin but I got that fixed pretty easily.
Now...to figure put how to make the Prieur cords pink: that would be awesome. -
Wow. I certainly have spawned quite the discussion. The obvious solution is to get just the 3-prong covers, and replace the bayonet plugs with something worthwhile.
Actually, I told the young ladies that their coveted cords were sold under the name "Mr. Chen's Easy-to-Fix" and they both said "oooooooh...." So it looks like I'm off the finicky wires hook. At least for the moment...
Anyway, carry on.

Hot pink with yellow check pattern running through it with one line of purple.
That ain't right about the WB crack... we never get no respect UNTIL somebody comes to us with their hat in their hand and a problem
About the BG sockets, anyone notice that sometimes the metal frame holding the plastic part of the socket is sometimes loose and that maybe this contributes to the cord coming out A LOT? Quidquid latine dictum sit altum videtur

Array The metal frames get warped, the plastic wears quickly, the springs aren't particularly strong and get weaker, ditto the springs in the cords. There are a host of contributing factors with the BG bayonet sockets and plugs. This is definitely a place where paying for the higher quality of LP is worthwhile.

That could look cool. Be easy to figure out which cords were yours and reduce the chances of someone accidently picking up your equipment.
