    Basic question for the ladies

I just purchased a uniform and protective gear (of my very own! no more borrowing - yay!) for my first tournament (which is tomorrow). I bought a one-piece plastic full chest protector, and I have a very basic question for other women who use them.

What do you wear underneath yours? The picture shown on the pamphlet that came with the protector shows a women wearing it with nothing underneath, or so it appears. But that seems like it would be very uncomfortable...do you wear a t-shirt under yours? Sports bra? Nothing?

    Thanks!

well, i'm not a girl, but since nobody has responded yet, i'll throw one out there.

i've seen girls wear a lot of stuff under them. tshirts, sports bras, underarmour, and combinations of those. but i've never seen anyone wear nothing under them.

i'd say that because i've seen such varied tastes in what to wear underneath it, you should probably try things out. figure out what you're most comfortable in because it seems to be slightly different depending on the girl.

If a woman wasn't wearing anything under her chest protector, do you really think she'd let you see?

Here is a woman's voice for you :-)
You would recommend to wear a shirt under your protector. As I do!!
    So: 1. T-shirt, 2. Protector, 3. vest, 4. jacket and finally e-vest!!

So have fun and I cross my fingers for you.

Are you a troll? Obviously it's just some provocative advertising.

Umm....no, I'm not a troll. And no, my message was not provocative advertising. I'm just simply asking a question because I have to figure out how to wear the #&%* thing in the morning and there are no other women in my club to ask.

Uggh no, t-shirts get soaked so fast and it gets gross. I wear a longer sports bra that comes down to my stomach. I know for sure that Adidas makes them. I've seen them in just about every sports store. If that doesnt work, try a normal sports bra with a cheepy tank top that you dont really care about. After you start fencing, it wont feel heavy and gross like a t-shirt does.

Your message was not provocative advertising...the IMAGE you are describing seems like provocative advertising. Just wear it over your T-shirt. I like to put my plasteron under it as well, other women like to put the plasteron over the chest protector.

See, my only problem with that is that the edges of the chest plate hits right on the outside of you pecks. with the hard plastic......it's not fun.
So I would say just wear a regular T-shirt.

My advise would not be much different than the others I suspect.

When i wear it (ie. when I'm not wearing the "cups" instead) I have a sports bra and a t-shirt under it. Just that hard plastic against your chest is not comfortable...

    Good luck with your competition!

Thanks for your replies. I am going to try to wear it over my t-shirt and see how it goes.

Like many other women, I wear a sports bra and a t-shirt under my one piece chest protector (I have a one piece that fits into a stretchy material cover).

The t-shirt getting sweaty and horrible doesn't really bother me, except at competitions when I tend to change the t-shirt seeral time (in between rounds).

Oooh--and what are you wearing under your breastplate?

    I wear: (1) a supportive bra (I'm a well-endowed lady); (2) a lightweight T-shirt; (3) my underarm protector; (4) my breastplate (full-on chest protector--the hubcaps are useless for me); (5) jacket; (6) lame.

One of our epeeists wears her underarm protector over her chest protector, but I find it always slides around when I try that.

If a T-shirt gets too heavy and sweaty, try an athletic shirt made from fabric that will wick the sweat away. I've heard they're expensive, but another of our epeeists swears by them.

The best thing I've found to wear under a plastic chest protector are the special non-cotton moisture-wicking t-shirts sold by athletic & camping supply stores. Soccer t-shirts are often made from this sort of fabric. It lets the sweat evaporate far more quickly than anything made of cotton.

(And because it dries so quickly you only need one or two shirts because they're easy to hand-rinse and let dry overnight.)
