"How did I fall out of a tree? What was I DOING IN a tree is probably a better question." The queens gaze feel on Naekos. "Why do I think you have something to do with this?"

"I informed you that I granted your wish," Nękos informed her. "You appear to have lost yourself in memories as a result, confusing my action with the betrayal of your childhood."

"What wish was that? I dont remember making any wish. My brain feels like cotton wool. Besides since when were you the genie in the bottle?"

Zelda sat up and shook her head. "The last thing I remember is arriving at the village and finding it had been burnt down. Meekal was angry for some reason....but I cant remember anything after that. Wheres Abercrombie?"

A whistle pierced the air, as she put two fingers in her mouth and blew. An answering whicker gave the position of her beloved horse, and approaching hoof beats signaled his imminent arrival.

"Look Zelda, why don't you and I go back and gather the group." She took Abercrombie's reins as the horse trotted up.

"No, you go back to the group. I want to talk to Naekos for a minute. We will be there soon, I promise."

Zelda smiled at Rosaline, but her eyes were still dead.

Nękos cringed and rubbed his nearer ear gently. "Please, my dear, keep in mind that my hearing is somewhat more sensitive than a full-blood's?"

He turned to Rosaline. "A moment, please."

"Zelda, you told me last night that you were sick of the burden of ruling, did not wish it anymore. I took that burden from you. When Slade and Krasala returned to Arconia with Moon, they took with them instructions to assume control of the kingdom. In this time, the leadership of a military orgainization is needed - it is what might save your people in the end."

"Fine," Rose turned on her heel and stalked away. She kicked a branch or two as she went. When she reached Shadowmaker however, she turned around and followed Zelda's suit, climbing up in a tree. She went as far as she could, hiding herself as best she could in the smaller branches. Her brown and green clothes helped her to blend in. She leaned back against the trunk and rubbed her head.

"I should leave." She said to no one before closing her eyes with a sigh.

"I still dont get it fully," she replied, "but I guess I am gonna have to trust you."

Naekos nodded, "It would be wise."

Zelda looked at him with something resembling fear in her eyes, "How badly was I gone?" she asked.

"You got into a fight with Senyik and Darion; bad enough that they found it necessary to wound you in order to restrain you. I will have words with them regarding that. You also sent me the message, 'Betrayal is forgivable, but it should not happen to be forgiven.'"

"I did not betray you," Nękos explained. "I granted your wish, and on top of it, I kept to my duty - I did what was best for the people of Arconia. Nothing stands in the way of that."

Zelda sighed. 'I guess you are right. I just thought I had buried that memory and cemented it over. This bought it all back."

She looked again at the halfing, tears pricking her eyes, "Will it ever actually stop hurting?"

"Not if you dwell on it," Nękos told her. "I have had betrayal enough in my time. My past hurts, I assure you. But I concentrate on anything else. It never quite stops hurting...you just stop thinking about it."

"Stop thinking? How can I stop thinking? Its like asking me to stop asking why!" Zelda exclaimed.

Rosaline in her tree smiled at Zeldas reference to one of her well known traits, asking "Why?" whenever someone told her something had to be done/happened.

Rosaline wasn't exactly sure what to think. She didn't know if she wanted to cry or scream, kill something or hug someone, die or live. She did none of them. It seemed that everything went blank, she thought of nothing, she simply was.

"Of course you cannot stop thinking. But think of something else. Think of the future, not the past."

"But what future is there? I cant see much at the moment. We are on a quest for something that may or may not exsist, our borders are threatened and I am having periodic madness. Tell me what is there to look forward to?"

The initial reply was only a sinister laugh. "What, my dear, you no longer enjoy the thrill of battle? You will get such a taste of it as the world will never forget. And in the end, we will win. The borders will not only be resumed, but actually enlarged. Your people will enjoy a life of prosperity never seen since before the Old King came to power. Moon and Meekal will rule over a united kingdom forged from the old lands of Muu and Schoolcraftia, in friendship with Arconia. Her son will sit on the Arconian throne, and when they have passed, all three kingdoms will be united under his rule. We will be the ones to insure that he is taught well, and rules magnificently. That, Zelda, is what you have to look forward to."

Zelda smiled. " Since when do you know Moontic is having a son? I didnt know claryoience was one of your talents Naekos."

The halfing just cocked an eyebrow at her and smirked.

Zelda continued "But yes, that vision is something to look forward to.I just need you to answer one question for me."

    "And what would that be?"

"Is it going to happen again? Am I going to loose it again? I dont want to....It scares the **** out of me."

"Again, that depends on what you decide to focus on. Keep thinking of the past, and perhaps it will. As for the child...just call it a halfling's instinct. Full elves frequently discern an unborn's gender."
