    Super Wick Technology

I tried on some of that wicking athletic apparel, and there is one thing I have to say...those of you who wear that stuff are REALLY, REALLY brave. It's like super ultra tight, and if you wear white, your nipples show. I'm a pretty lean guy, so when I buy shirts and stuff, I usually buy size smalls. However, with these saran wrap body suit thingies, I have to get around XL to feel moderately decent. More girls should wear this stuff.

Anyway, I've found a few brands that sell these cloths. Athletic works, BCG?, Coolmax, something that starts with an S.... Are they all the same? I wish I could tell which one was the best.

Well, the idea is not to parade around town wearing those, but to fence in them. You wear them under something else.
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

Yeah, it's part of a layering process. I wear it under another shirt that is part cotton/polyester/lycra that is more absorbent but still wicks.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc., or Really Expensive Items or Return Every Item, as you will) sells plain wicking polypro t-shirts (www.rei.com) for something like $20. I use them for both fencing and hiking, and they dry fast (think between pool bouts). Moreover, they don't make you look like Batman or something.

Katman and I know a particular person who wears those body suits...along with oversized cups.....

Anyway, no matter how good you look and how confident you are, you will still cause my eyes pain when you force me to see you in a body suit.

It's funny, I wear the Under Armour stuff for fencing, or under my armour as it were, and don't even think about it now.

Oh I get made fun of by my guy friends at my club, but you know what, it's about performance not looks. Just like my fencing uniform.

It is long johns, except that the material is an updated synthetic that draws moisture off and away from your body. It is supposed to help with body temperature setting and keeping you drier and presumably more comfortable. At ~$30-40 top and bottom, Under Armours are modern day, modern cost long johns.

Another use is for protecting from chafing from equipment/pads/etc. The thin profile of Under Armour makes it possible to wear the under layer without adding bulk. Lots of professions wear them too, like police offices and fire fighters and football players to keep bulky vests and belts and padding from rubbing against the skin.

There are other benefits as well as reduction from chafing. Compression reduces muscle fatigue and the chance of injury.

Also note that Under Armour comes in 3 styles cold weather, hot weather, and all season gear designed to keep your body comfy in all weathers.

i recently bought a very nice under armour shirt, and i love it muchly.

yes, it is tight, but.... i'm a girl. (it's red, and if i wear an interesting bra, you can see that through it. it's better than the white one--- with that one you could see my belly button... and somehow it made my abs look defined, even though they're not really defined when i don't have a shirt on..... it was odd....)

UA also has LooseGear though, which fits more like a normal tshirt

if you'd prefer to not wear something tight all the time.

Never tried it for fencing but for running and skiing i wear wicking shirts, good for cold wet weather and very light, but you can also wear it without getting overheated. At least fencing people don't wear under armour with running spandex!

I'm having a hard time understanding what you are trying to say. Picture please.

I've tried wicking stuff for fencing just once so far. It's really nice how it doesn't hold as much water as a normal cotton t-shirt. When you are done fencing, the wicking thingy will be a bit damp, but it dries off really quickly. This is quite different from a normal Tshirt that would take maybe 1 hour+ to dry if I were still wearing it.
