    Feet First: Socks

    Socks for fencing feet.

Club and Logo socks aside, what socks work best for you for fencing and what do you recommend? Same socks for practice as for tournaments? Any tricks to trade for max effectiveness?

Multiple Choice answers permitted and requested as appropriate.

2 pairs regulation socks up to knee. hopefully the extra pair would add some thickness to my skinny legs and also add extra comfort inside the shoes.

i would really like to have those adidas socks with the three stripes but at $23.00 for one pair, not worth it.

I have a pair of the 3 stripe Adidas socks and I must admit, they are great! Worth $20? Ehhh.. depends on how much disposable income you have. But I also only wear those to tournaments, when I am at practice I just wear white soccer socks.

I wear cotten baseball socks to tournaments. I honestly have no idea what the rest of that stuff is.

    Soccer Socks

I have a bunch of soccer socks that I use. They fit over my calves without getting all wierdly stretched, I guess because they are typically supposed to hold pads as well.

They breath well and offer a lot of comfort to the feet (lot of running in soccer I understand).

    Colorful too.

I was of the same opinion until i actually got a pair. I used to use soccer socks and athletic socks that I bought from Copeland and they don't compare in the amount of comfort of the adidas socks. I dunno if there's a difference in protection. I find socks offer very little protection ( I recently got enough gouge on my leg while wearing the soccer socks) so it's more of a comfort issue for me. It gives enough cushioning in the feet without making my feet sweat (and they sweat alot in normal socks and shoes) and also the softness across my legs help me from any distractions I would get from rougher socks rubbing across my legs. I recommend getting a pair for competitions and using other socks for practice.

Funny, I've been using soccer socks as well. They seem to fit great. I've tried some fencing socks that would cut the blood off because they were so tight around the calf.

I also have a couple of pair of adidas that fit real nice, but the soccer socks are readily available, don't have to be ordered, and are about 1/2 the price...

Try Ski socks. They offer better protection than fencing socks. The only bad thing is they are a little bit warm, even the thin style.

I wear a regular pair of ankle socks(not the ultra-low ankle socks that end at your ankle bones that Ive seen people wear) under a cheap pair of what I assume are soccer socks.
I got the cheapest socks in the store, they're perfectly soft and they were obscenely long(went past my knees) so I cut them and now they're perfect.

The under-socks help absorb some impact from footwork, especially on concrete.

Thorlo lightweight skiing (Thermolite blend, whatever that is ) socks over cotton blend ankle socks (Champion).

Since I found this combination (two years ago), I haven't developed a blister.

I tend to like the Estoc socks, but then of course I sell them!
And at $10 a pair they are really a good buy!

They used to be my favorite: boy, they are comfortable!!!

    Two problems:

The calves are a little tight for me, especially after multiple washings.
My son "borrowed" them, and I never saw them again.

I wear two pairs of white Wigwam socks, one pair heavy and one pair lighter weight. The heavy ones are hard to find in stores and buying over the internet makes me nervous, but at any rate this combination works well for me. And no annoying colors or logos, just plain ol' white socks...

I wear the Adidas 3-Stripe socks (got them cheap off eBay) they are really comfy and quite light so I don't get too hot. They also look pretty good as well!
