    BF Blade Dilemma

I am deciding between the Uhlmann Ultra FIE Maraging Foil from The Fencing Post and the BF Blue Maraging Foil from SG Fencing. Anyone have any thoughts on these blades? Any pros/cons or insights? I have, in the past, used the non-FIE Uhlmann Ultras and the Vniti (which I find heavy at times).Thanks.

I don't know about the Uhlmann Ultra, but the BF's I've gotten from BG have been very good. I buy the white blades because they're cheaper, but I've gotten very good performance out of them.

Personally, I like the uhlman bfs.... they are heavy but balanced- which makes you 'feel' the blade. In the past, my problem with vnitis were the strange balance. They were heavy at the bottom and light at the top, which is cool for flicking- but disengaging= no good.

Both the blades CalFencer mentions are BF blue maraging blades, it's just a matter of who bought and stamped them. Uhmann and Allstar usually are first in line to select batches of blades from BF, so you may on average get a slightly higher quality of BF blade from them (there's always a certain variation between batches of blades, and between individual blades in a batch). That said, I've been perfectly satisifed with the BF FIE blades I've purchased through BG/SG. The ideal is to buy your blades in person (such as at a NAC or Nationals), so you can hand pick the ones that feel best to you.

I personally prefer the way the blues 'break-in' to the whites, so I'm willing to spend the extra few dollars. I use Vnitis a lot in practice to save wear on my BFs.
