    Iris Z and foil

I just read the article about the situation ms zimmerman finds herself in. It is DREAdful and I mean it very much. A couple of things come to mind: one, the political issue she mentions. It may be terrible to say this but, maybe it's 'protectionism' - 'southern style'. Believe it or not the men who make these decisions may have had trouble with the idea of sending too many off to greece or whatever this year due to possible violence, but hey, are they having a problem sending off our other guys? They better have it together this year.

In the long run, why would she want to leave fencing forever. Even if Iris can't go this year, it would be great if she and some others could deal with their losses, as many other dissapointed fencers have in the past and think about coaching the 'next generation'. Getting talented kids off the ground and into the international arean quicker.

May be force be with you.

The politics being mentioned was at the FIE level - bringing in the talk about 'southern style' just doesn't fit at all.

This whole thing is the fault of the IOC. I also think it's unfair that they changed their decision about men's sabre. What's random should be kept random, but the politics run deep in the FIE.
