Plus, it can be absolutely secure because only the person editing the website has access to the database.
I know that there are probably plenty of web-heads out there that are capable of helping an orgainizer out in this regard.
The one great thing that you loose by not using a very well know (at least in the western and southern sections) webbased database management system is the publicity to the rest of the fencing community. But if you take a page from Matt Hites book, you shouldn't have any trouble at all promoting a tournament to the intire country, ie the High Plains Open, I'm sure you all have heard of it - long before you registered on Fred. I agree with some of the above and disagree with some. I think the same expansion of tournaments could have been accomplished by the USFA having a regional tournament board like the divisions/clubs page, then the tournament organizers would have a central, well publized source for tournament news. We in the Pacific Norwest have gotten used to using FRED this way. The problem, countrywide, is not having one place to go to look for tournaments. Hopefully the USFA will move faster than a snail on this and also have all security issues addressed. John Matus

Is it just me, or does Swordmaster seem a trifle hostile to Peet and FRED? Likewise, this post sounds as though you're trying to mix up trouble, or divide the readers into two distinct camps.
There's no need to define a group consensus on this sort of personality conflict. Just let it go. -

No division intended. I don't need to do that because there are already two camps on this issue. I was just shining some light on the darker side of the product...things that most folks are afraid to do. Most people will just let you languish in your stupidity (no offence) and not tell you something has a problem, "oh well he will figure it out - why should I get involved?!"
I don't even know Peet personally. I think I have only seen him once and we have never met. It is not about personalities...just Fred. Unless you are confussing Fred with an actual person, named Fred... -

Thanks Scott but I really don't have a book, yet. LOL--I'm just trying to do everythiing that everyone suggests to promote our tournament and it seems to be working..... I moved stuff over to ask fred for the tournament registriation for these reasons. 1. it is free, 2. it is easy to use, 3. it automaticly updates the second peopel register, 4. lots of people look at it for events, 5. it was suggested by a coach I admire :-), 6. it has the USFA chart and good person to e-mail if you have questions or suggestions.
I have not decided if I love the program or not yet.
Ask Fred, in itself is not the best or only way to promote a tournament. I am trying ask fred for the first time for the High Plains Open (AKA: The Crown of Texas Regional) this year. We'll see how it goes.
I see the need of the waivers and other items but many times those can be done on site. Similar Threads -
