Array Black. Studies show that the eye is attracted to bright colors, so having a dark tip tape might cause the opponent to subconsciously miss it in their peripheral vision. -

The other is to use bright colors because you are not only fencing your opponent, but also the referee. If he can better see your actions it can be in your favor.
I don't have a school of thought though, I'm an armorer and what do we know.... oxxx[[======================= \\Toll Free 866-SWORD4U Slay more with a Claymore -

Array I just use whatever is cheapest. :P "That's hot." - Paris Hilton -
I picked up a bunch of rolls of camera tape cheap from a surplus store a while back. I've ended up using the following system (based on the colors of tape I have):
-Grey for club weapons.
-Brown or dark green for other people's weapons I work on.
-Blue for my own personal weapons.
It may seem a little anal, but it does help me keep track of what's what, both when I've got a bunch of club and personal weapons I repaired and when people are borrowing club weapons for spares at tournaments.

Array well... ...another advantage of bright tip tape might be to help your opponent see your blade better. many actions start with feints, so it would help a fake attack cath an opponents eye, which would be good, provided the real attack is too fast to be parried, whether seen or not. i wouldn't want me opponent to miss my feint because i had dark tip tape. in the end, however, tip tape probably makes little or no difference. -

Array None. That stuff would insulate my blade and keep me from scoring touches. -

Array Ah I like black, i don't know why. I use duct tape a lot of the time, it works fine. There are no boundaries in love, there are no boundaries in Rock 'n' Roll -

Array On the rare occasion I fence foil:
Foil tip tape, neon pink, ugly
It's cheap, and even blind people can see it -

Array my preference on foil is black, though I rarely fence foil anymore. I've fenced people with neon colored tape, and at first its distracting to me. I want to look at the "pretty colors". Its like the rainbow blades. ALSO distracting... I want to look at all the nice shifting colors.
My only complaint about some of the colored tapes is that they leave colored streaks on jackets. We bought a roll of red a couple months back and now all the clubs jackets sport red streaks. The wash out, but we never wash club jackets (well, not till the dorms have free laundry weekend, which usually falls into a two day event weekend). -
I like black cuz it looks cool and it is harder to see.
Anyone know of place I can get multicorored tape. -

Array If you are talking more than one color on the same tape and you are talking 3/4" or 1", no. I have seen 2" Camouflage put out by Pro-Gaff. You might check Camera stores for 'Camera' tape, which is usually 1" gaffers tape, but sometimes you can find 3/4" tape. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array My tape color depends on the blade color that I'm using, my VINTI's are black so I use black tape my BF's tend to be lighter colored so I use grey.
I used to use bright tape but I want my opponent to watch anything but my point. I feint as much with my body, hands and feet as I do with my tip. "I'm extraordinarily patient provided I get my own way in the end" - Margaret Thatcher Similar Threads -
