    Question About Nationals

I qualified for Div II in foil (something I didn't expect to do) and I was thinking about heading to South Carolina with some of my teammates who are going. My question is how much fencing could one expect to get if they expect to get beaten up pretty badly early on? Would I be taking all that time to get there only to fence six or seven bouts? Also, is someone allowed to do both two and three?

If you were a "D" or under at the time of qualification, you should be able to fence Div. III also.

Did you qualify in your age group as well? That'd make three comps and probably worth the trip.

My son did his first national competition this year (JOs) and although he was eliminated in his first DE, he was pretty happy with the experience. Making it out of the pools was his goal, and he achieved it.

I'd say go if you can swing it.

About half the people in each event are going for only 6-7 bouts (5-6 pool bouts and then out in their first DE). Multiple events obviously increases this number....

Go, do div II and III, hopefully you'll do a round or two better in the div III, and in any case getting used to what national level tournaments are like is vital if you expect to eventually play at that level.

Unfortunately I can only do that if I go to the Sectional Qualifier (Junior), which is a bit of a distance for me to go while school is still going on.
