| Need an Uhlmann Foil Body Cord? I purchased a body cord last year in a blaze of enthusiasm and ignorance--bought a nice Uhlmann from PBT Fencing. It's only been "used" once--long enough for me to learn that my club, and everyone else in my division, uses Prieur. It's been languishing in my bag ever since.
If anyone is willing to give a friendly blue, practically new Uhlmann body cord a home, please contact me re. terms. Am willing to exchange for a Prieur in good working order, or for coin of the realm. (The USA realm.)

| D,
I'll swap you out if it is truely an Uhlmann cord. Do the ends have the "U" on one side of the shell? Send a pic if you are able. And drop me a line.

| Dartag-NOT,
I would also be interested. I am going to all German parts and will need a backup German cord. However, Swordmaster beat me it looks like.

| I've already had two previous responses via private message, so I think both of you fine folks are out of luck unless my negotiations fall through. I do thank you both for responding. My poor orphaned little body cord will be so happy to know it's wanted in so many places after sitting all lonely in my equipment bag.

| i don't think its an uhlmann body cord. i, of course, could be wrong, though.
it might be a german style body cord, but as far as i know, pbt doesn't sell uhlmann stuff. pbt does, however, make a body cord that looks a lot like uhlmann. but its pbt. |

My foil has a french plug but I was using a german cord. Could that have caused some of the issue?

| D'Artagnan1673 that is a good question for the armoury section right? I really dont know the answer but a thread might be wise there on the ghost idea. |

| Ghost in the foil I have actually used a German plug a fair amount with a french foil socket (prieur) and havent had any problems (at least not related to that configuration). Basically I had some old equipment with Prieur stuff on it, and an old cord. And have had to swap to those items after strings of breakages as a last resort.
You ghosting I would suspect is a very slightly poor connection between the pin in the plug and the port on the socket. This could be due to wear or corrosion on either.
I had a vexing problem recently where my foil socket has been assembled with an epee port on the insulated side of the foil socket. I would fence with the weapon a bit then have off targets. If I unplugged and then plugged back in it would be fine. When I would extend for a touch it would pull my cord taut and the clip on the plug would center that small pin right in the middle of the hole and break the connection.
I eventually figured it out.

| what he said
except a little more specific:
unless i'm mistaken, french sockets are a little wider than german in the connector. the german progs have those little springish parts with what kind of reminds me of spokes (you can tell i'm not a trained armourer ) that kind of fan out. odds are the problem is they're not connecting. take a tip screwdriver or something and use it to gently make those spokes a little wider so they'll connect better with the socket.
maybe it'll work, maybe not. just something to look out for. |
