Cheapo repair tools Hi!
Just came back after training, the whole time spent repairing club stuff - my foot is useless for the time being. An epee thread broke inside the tip, just underneath the cup *after* I had applied all the cyanoakrylate bottom glue. Darn!
Anyway - which mechanical tool do you think is worth to spend extra on? I have bought almost all of mine in cheapo stores, and they serve me fine. The only thing that I have that is above really basic price is my wrench, and I donīt think that it would have been good to go cheap on that.
What tool do you think that one must spend the extra buck on?
Made myself a new blade bending tool, complete with a turnbuckle to set the bend easily. Looks quite nice!
Have a nice time!

Peter Gustafsson Get a decent ohm meter. With an accurate ohm meter you can troubleshoot and repair a bodycord without guesswork, and it will pay for itself the first time you DON"T have to buy a whole new cord. It will also help you to solve intermittant epee tip issues. A regular tester is fine for quick "before the bout" checks...but an ohm meter is essential for effective epee armoring. -

Array I would second the good OHM meter and add a variable speed dremmel or other brand of rotary tool. I use mine for just about everything from cleaning out blade grooves, taking the rust and burs off old blades, cuting tangs, polishing guards and probably a bunch of other stuff around the house.
Mine is a cheapy from Holmier and it has served me fine for over a year of fairly regular work, but I recommend the dremmel drand attachments as they are much better and last longer. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

An addition to that...if you buy a wheel to grind wires out, get the diamond wheel. It's technically a cutting wheel, but it's about as fast as a tortise going uphill. PERFECT for grinding a wire out. The reinfirced fibreglass cutting wheels are good for cutting the tang down. -

Array A good outside hex wrench, dont buy the plastic kind. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Array The Ohm meter is important. I prefer an analog for 2 reasons. We are talking about mechanical connections, which the analog works better and you can get a good analog for much cheaper than a good digital. Make sure it has a x1, not x10 or x1K.
The proper size screwdrivers is also important. The wrong size can break screws. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array dont forget to magnetize one screw driver, it makes things easier. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird.
