| I've never gone to Pomme de Terre, but am planning to go this year. Just out of curiousity, how intense in the competition? Please, save the witty answers for something else.

| Pretty intense, though more variable in quality than, say, a Division I NAC. However, the best fencers are quite good--my experience is with the women's sabre. I go because I can assume there will be some very competent fencers there, because it's run well, and because it's friendly. The referees are good and the organizers know what they're doing.

| there are a lot of good fencers there. there are a lot of good directors there. and, word to my homeboys in the bout committee..... *cough*
and, yeah. if you want to win? ...... intense competition.
But, i mean, there's Peach, and then me....this'll be my 4th PdT, and i wouldn't miss it for the world....
because even though i suck, it's SO MUCH FUN.

| there are always a couple A's in each weapon, usually more in Epee. I heard a rumor that Brendan Meyers is coming this year in foil, and that would boost the competition. . . But yes, very good competition, good time, cool people!

| The competition is tough both in the opens and the unrated. My goal this year is to be in the top 80% after pools
And epeemike, to answer your multitude of questions, the club's BG stuff was fine foe ~6 months and then started breaking like crazy. I do like their customer service, I just wish they wouldn't send us 2 prong weapons instead of bayonettes
Uhlmann is good. |

| PdT is indeed a lot of fun. The competition isintense in the later rounds, but even though there are some really excellent fencers, the lowly fencers with no chances at winning **cough** me **cough** still can fence and enjoy themselves.
I've also heard the rumor of Brendan Myers coming down too.
By the way, if you win don't expect to ever recieve your cup, cuz I didn't, but they're askin for it back lol. But everyone gets a free T-shirt and bag of chips. |

| It certainly is.
More than any other tournament all year excluding nationals(barely) I look forward to the pomme de terre. My first pomme de terre was the first tournament I ever won a DE bout in and it was a great experience. Tim Morehouse was in my pool, before I even had a clue who he was.
Especially looking forward to it this year after spectating but not being able to participate last year

| How nasty are they going to be about fencing 2 events?
I'd like to fence the Open MS, and the MF Team which start within 1.5 hrs of each other...I'm relatively experienced at doing multiple weapons on the same day (silly NA Section, not very friendly to foil/sabre!), but are they going to be extremely strict about being eliminated from one event before registering for the other?

| Hope your team has a sub.
They enforce strickly at PdT. If it's two individual events you need to be done with the first before the second closes registration, which basically means that even if you're horrible at the first weapon it's not going to happen. With an individual event and a team event you can certainly operate as a fill-in sub on your team (don't count on being available for the majority of the bouts). I've done this a couple of years (last year I was the "sub" for UMass's MFT (popped in between pools and DEs of MS, back in later between a couple of DEs), and MET (popped in after being eliminated from MF), in a previous year I was the surprise "sub" that jumped into a composite MST after finishing ME (and yes, I was listed as part of the original team, just because our opponents hadn't noticed and were unpleasantly surprised doesn't mean that it wasn't legit.... :) )).
Nicer to F/S fencers than E/S fencers.... For a couple of years in a row now I've had to not do my second weapon (epee) due to a conflict with my primary (sabre). Conflicts happen. They rotate around and everyone gets screwed on occasion. You're complaining because foil and sabre AREN'T in conflict (which therefore means that the open of one is in conflict with the team event of the other). Actually, since I assume that you're also doing open MF, what you're complaining about it the schedule doesn't allow for more events than days. Mmmmm, yeah, I feel for you. *sniff* :)
See you in about a week.

| Nah, I was just curious if it was possible. In that case, I'll fence the team, and save sabre for Nationals.
Got all my complaining out of the way at Sectionals, which is ALWAYS foil/sabre unfriendly!

| Key difference there is that sectionals makes allowances for people that are double-stripping. I chose not to triple-strip this year, but it worked out well for me last year. It's not even an available option at PdT.
