Gay Games Hey,
If fencing was part of the gay games... how many entries would we get???? -

Array I'm sorry if I seem rude, but I find it entirely remarkable that a section of the community that wants to be accepted like every one else to purpousfully segregate themselves. (deposits 2 cents) The only way to atone for being occasionally a little over-dressed is by being always absolutely over-educated. -Oscar Wilde -

Array The gay games?
Do these exist? The original seemed like a joke post.. "Their interpretation is, however, refuted most elegantly by your system of radioactive atom + amplifier + charge of gun powder + cat in a box"

As to the second post: I hope it isn't necessary to explain why 'purpousfully segregating themselves' isn't really the point of the Gay Games, so I won't. A second decade of excellence -

Array Huh, I thought the original post was a typical "Fencing is gay!" thing you get from most ignorant bystanders.
Pretty sure the original was a joke post. Don't feed the trolls. -

Array If it were a USFA tourney (Ratings or points) or had cool trophys I would fence in the first annual Neo-Nazis for Jesus and the Ethical Treatment of Animals Games. Okay maybe not that one but pretty much anything for me. I am a fencing harlot! :-)

Array I don;t think the USFA woiuld sanction a tournament at the gay games.
The USFA is in a big youth movment and parents will not accept a sport that is promoted at the gay game..... Anyway I wonder if the rules would be just a littel different at the gay games; considering we poke, jab, and touch one another. LOL
Anyway I don't think it would be wise if there was gay fencing to attend as (1). I am not gay, (2) it sends the wrong message about fencing (3). it's just plain silly.
Now you have to remember I'm in Texas and we still are not a liberal as a lot of the world when it comes to gay and abnormal relationshops... -

Array Maybe you would be likely to go for the Neo Nazis for Jesus tourney? Just joking.
I do however disagree that it would send the wrong message. I do not think the message would be "Fencing is a gay sport" but that "fencing is a sport that is open to anyone" or that "Not all fencers are reactionary steroetypists and we can compete/interact with people of a differant philisophical opinion". Fencing is an international sport and we have to understand and interact with people from a multitude of backgrounds, beliefs, religions, ect.
Of course this thread should probably be shot to the watercooler for several reasons... Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

You are certainly right in that parents will yank their kids out of any sport that would allow itself to be in the gay games! Especially ones where a gay person might touch or look at a straight person in a revealing outfit! Why just look at some of the sports that have gone almost extinct since they were first in the gay games several years ago!
Basketall, Biathlon, Cycling, Diving, Figure skating, Football (soccer), Golf, Ice Hockey, Inline Skating, Judo, Marathon, Martial Arts, Power Lifting, Racquetball, Rowing, Softball, Swimming (individual), Swimming (relays)
Swimming (records), Tennis, Track and Field (men), Track and Field (women)
Volleyball, Wrestling Etc. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Array While the original post may have been a troll, HP seems to have missed the point: there is a whole world out there beyond the borders of Texas. Remember the headache that attitute caused the Boy Scouts of America?
What business is it of yours or the USFA what a person does in their personal life outside of fencing? - What does it matter? Should the USFA allow libertarians to fence? What about people with tatoos, what about alcoholics, tax cheats, and wife abusers? What about people who drive pickup trucks with gun racks? Those are all "lifestyle choices."
For the sake of debate, don't you think USFA has already sanctioned tournaments where gay people competed? Suppose there are 10% gay people at Summer Nationals (the typical and accepted occurence of homosexuality in the general population). Since there are a lot of kids, maybe its only 2%. Does it matter what the actual number is? What about local USFA tournies in the SF / Bay area where that percentage may be higher. Is 20 % acceptable? How about 50% ? What if its 10% straight? Who decides. And...Who at USFA is counting? My USFA card has my weapon ratings, my competitor status, and my name...doesn't even have my gender much less my preference.
The USFA is in a big youth movment and parents will not accept a sport that is promoted at the gay game.....
Your logic escapes me... so you are saying that if the gay games has a fencing competition, Parents will not not let their kids fence because gays have fenced as well?. Did you know that gay people eat food and breath air? Perhaps parents won't support those activities too.
Greg Louganis didnt cause an exodous from US Diving, did he?
Anyway I wonder if the rules would be just a littel different at the gay games; considering we poke, jab, and touch one another. LOL
LOL? You're just being humorlessly silly. More infallible logic. If the rules were different, it wouldn't be USFA sanctioned...and you'd have nothing to be to be phobic about.
Anyway I don't think it would be wise if there was gay fencing to attend as (1). I am not gay, (2) it sends the wrong message about fencing (3). it's just plain silly.
And I can imagine your perceived horror of perhaps losing a bout to a gay person. You'd be thrown out of the state.
I though one of the messages about fencing was that as a demographic community it was open, accepting and tolerant of all kinds of people. There have been several threads here addressing that.
Now you have to remember I'm in Texas and we still are not a liberal as a lot of the world when it comes to gay and abnormal relationshops...
Like being from Texas gives you a license to be ignorant - Define "normal." Liberal or conservative, the one thing that seems consistant about bigots is their astounding lack of awareness: they tend to assume that a) they speak for everyone, and b) that everyone within earshot agrees with them.
And by the way...there are gays in Texas too - maybe right nearby - maybe even in your salle. You just don't know it, since apparently being gay inTX can get you killed.
- and I'm not even gay, or play one on TV - but can't stand the noise of such nonsense....
I'm gonna press the send button now, and take two cautious retreats away from the keyboard...

Volleyball, Wrestling Etc. Speaking of wrestling one description would sound vaguely homoerotic to HP:
".... the original Olympians, greek wrestlers trained and competed nude, oiled their bodies, no women were allowed to watch ... Like the modern sport, an athlete needed to throw his opponent on the ground, landing on a hip, shoulder, or back for a fair fall. 3 throws were necessary to win a match. Biting was not allowed, and genital holds were also illegal. Attacks such as breaking your opponent's fingers were permitted." -

Array Artisan: Don't start on wrestling my friend, that was my sport for six years before fencing this year and I'm a little attached. Heh, you were probably joking though and this is my overprotectiveness jumping in. So if you were, sorry for taking it seriously. But if you weren't... RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:
