Array Problem w/Uhlmann reel - help?? One of our uhlmann reels froze, we took it apart and the ball bearings are frozen. Can this be fixed? When I called several companies to ask, they said it would be cheaper just to buy two new ones as they only sell them by sets, and of course they wanted to sell them to me.
Any advice? -

Array Most suppliers only carry a few spare parts (replacement cables and maybe fencer end sockets) Uhlmann has a fairly complete list of spare parts available on their website: http://www.uhlmann-fechtsport.de/inhalt_katalog_e.htm
The exchange rate and shipping will add up a bit but its is still a lot cheaper than buying new reels. -

Array If you'll contact one of the armours that works the NAC's and Nationals they might be able to help you and get you the parts you needd.. Some of them may already have the part. Jeff Rosen out of Colorado Springs has bailed me out a few times by having the parts I needed for my Leon Paul reels. your reels are common enough that someone may already have the parts... I suggest asking around.. -

Array Calabasas? It's Camarillo! Also saberbaber, if you are going to be going to the PCC's, bring it there. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

You can often free up the bearings with WD-40, and then re-lubricate them with an appropriate oil or grease. I've done this for a couple of Uhlmann reels in my division (one of which was completely siezed), and they've been free of any bearing problems since. It's best to disassemble the reel all the way down to just the baseplate and bearing when doing this, so you can easily get to the bearing from both above and below. If you've not done a full takedown of an Uhlmann before, take Donald up on his offer of help, so you can have someone with experience guide you through the process.
