Array Greg Chang earns MF 4th slot for US Olympic team From: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/...G_sports.shtml
...
Speaking by telephone from the Georgia World Congress Center, (Sinkin) had minutes before watched his friend and senior men’s foil opponent, 28-year-old Harvard graduate Greg Chang of Boston, earn the team’s fourth and final spot as alternate. Chang scored eight straight points to come from behind and win. If Chang had lost, Sinkin would be in Athens, Greece, in August.
Sinkin’s coach, Nat Goodhartz of Hilton, called the margin “miniscule” and said her student fenced extremely well. Sinkin finished seventh, earning a medal (top eight). It was the sixth national tournament for the 2001 Penfield graduate.

Array "Nat Goodhartz of Hilton, called the margin “miniscule” "
But if the USA wins, Chang gets a gold medal, too, right? Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. -

But if the USA wins, Chang gets a gold medal, too, right? only if he gets used.
if he isn't used for at least one encounter, then he isn't, officially speaking, an olympian (which is a stupid rule, imo. I think if he's LISTED as the alternate, he's on the team and deserves a medal).

Array Oh, that sucks for CHang, then.
Who are the other 3 guys, by the way. Jed, Jon, and Dan? Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. -

Array p.s. is Sinking a democrat? Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. -

I understand (though disagree with) the implication, but I don't want to get into a political discussion right now (for once). however, it doesn't really apply here... Sinkin's coach wasn't saying that he was robbed or anything, just pointing out how close he was as a way of praising him.
Edit: Oops, I just read the url of the article... I guess I read that joke a little too deep.... sorry.

Do you guys know how Sean McLain did in Atlanta? If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Array If Gabre lost to Dan in the quarter final, why did he have to fence with Greg? Or was it that Gret beat somebody else to win enough of points to be on the team?

Array Wow.
Good for Greg. Very impressive, I hadn't even thought of the possibility.

Greg took 3rd, and they were close enough going in that the difference between round of 8 points and round of 4 points put Greg above Gabe.

Array So they didn't fence with each other? Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. -

Array Doesn't appear that way.
They both made the 8. Gabe had to fence Dan to get into the 4 and lost.
Greg (obviously) had to fence someone other than Dan, and won. "Their interpretation is, however, refuted most elegantly by your system of radioactive atom + amplifier + charge of gun powder + cat in a box"

Array I guess the reporter wrote it in such way that it appeared Sinking fenced against Chang, so to make it more interesting.
"Chang scored eight straight points to come from behind and win."
I thought that meant Chang scored 8 straight points against Sinking. Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. -

Array The sentence preceeding the one you quoted:

He refered to Chang as his opponent, no? And it didn't say he watched it while he was on the side of the stripe. Maybe, perhaps, likely, possibly, probably, potentially. Similar Threads -
