    Hemisemidemiannual Equipment Poll X-travaganza!

As a point of interest, let's see who gets their stuff from where. It's late, so remind me if I missed any major manufacturers.

You should have added Negrini, Prieur and PBT.

Triplette made my jacket, that's it. In NC, they are the major supplier for fencers not willing to spend the PBT bucks, so I bought my original kit from them. My knickers are Leon Paul, my Sabre mask and my glove are both PBT.

    And you forgot Santelli

As long as we're talking stuff: there was a discussion on here awhile back about the stuff from Cartel, but I don't think anyone had actually seen their stuff. Has anyone tried a kit from these guys? I ask because their FIE stuff is dirt cheap, even with exchange rates and shipping, and I have to wonder what the catch is.

As to the manufacturers I forgot: you get a max of 10 poll options, so I did what I could. Hence the 'other' box.

I don't hate myself, in fact, I've been quite happy with my Triplette stuff. I've had the uniform since 1994. I'll be buying a new kit soon, but I think 10 years of use is more than reasonable.

Soudet FIE jacket. Triplette knickers (my Soudet knickers seem to have "shrunk") , Negrini FIE plastron. Leon Paul FIE mask, Estoc glove, PBT shoes

A young fencer came up to me recently and asked me why no part of my uniform matched. I hadn't really noticed. I guess when you're shaped like me, you take what fits.

How do you like the Infinity lame? If you don't know how to sew, now is the time to woo a seamstress.

We love the Infinitys, but you can't let any of the seams stay open, once popped loose. Tack them back together at once (no need for metallic thread). They make the lames with such tight seam allowances that they will unzip if you let them go.

Oh, believe me: as a confirmed bachelor and inveterate cheapskate I HAVE learned to sew....

I've only worn the lame once thus far. The only real difference I've noticed is that it provides less impact absorption than heavier lames, so I'm glad I have a stout jacket. Doubtless the vaunted superior ventilation and lightness will manifest themselves in time, though in truth I never found the conventional stainless steel Uhlmanns particularly onerous in either regard---I bought the Infinity because with the depreciation of the dollar it was a bit less expensive this time around.

I plan to overstitch the seams as a precautionary measure just as soon as I find the time. Good news that no special thread is needed!

Used to use a Santelli deer skin 3 weapon glove, will buy another some day. Contrary to DamianIP, for some crazy reason I love continuity in my gear and selected a brand and went exclusively with them; then again, I am of an average size.

We've got a guy at the club whoose been using the same Santelli jacket for 16 years!!! And I think his mask is going on 13 by now. I am truly amazed at this man. He doesn't care how ragged his stuff looks so long as it fits and works. The interior of his mask has duct tape to hold the padding together in places, and its not like he is too poor to buy a new mask!

I agree with Scott (swordmaster) the Estoc is great. It's what I have and I like it.

Again like I sadi before though lots of these things are a personal preference. Going to an event to try on and see what is offered is the best way to know what you like and how it fits.
