e) other (specify): For my peace of mind I need what rules there are to be called consistently. I have never once felt my epee result was do to poor directing. I started with foil, but my frustration with the directing led me to switch, though I do fence foil for fun a few times a year.

I think that rules are necessary in life, but should be kept to a minimum. I think the most important thing about rules (in fencing and in life) is that they should be clear enough that everyone can understand them (counter example: tax law or the vague interpretations of fencing right of way) and enforced uniformly and thoroughly (i.e. nobody gets off easy and no one gets picked on).

Perhaps this kid is a very advanaced 5th grader. He knew that on the topic of "living with rules," including sabre fencers would skew the data.

Rules are there for a reason. Unless I see a good reason why they shouldn't be followed, I adhere to them.
