And it's just as usual for Republicans to smear Democrats as pinkos, immoral, or weak on defense.

Silly stereotypes in either direction don't help us progress.

In that same vein, I've laughed my head off at some of the insults Martin Luther slung at his religious enemies.

So what your saying is that people who hold traditional values generally aren't intellectual? That's a bit of a board statement.

As far as trends are concerned, often younger people are liberal and democratic, but become more conservative and more republican as they get older.

Sorry, I should said, that is how it is perceived.

If I were from a conservative background, I might say the same thing about liberals.

There are plenty of very intelligent, talented people each political party. The problem with partisanship is that we forget that, because we hold too closely to an ideology and not on fact.

Someone who's name escapes me at the moment once said that anyone who was under the age of thirty and not a liberal had no heart, and anyone over the age of thirty and not a conservative had no brains.
It's not easy making this look easy.

I said the same thing a couple of weeks ago and got slammed for it.

I never thought of Luther as being a barrel of laughs, but hey, to each his own.

Since we've raised the subject of conservatives and traditional values, here's one I found funny, or at least interesting: Sam Walls, Cross-dressing Texas Republicans gone wild reported at Drudge Report, Washington Post, Cleburne (Texas) Times Review, etc. Apparently this candidate for the Texas House has a history of cross-dressing (but in conservative women's dress, I'm sure).

What I thought was the looniest part of the story is the comment by the treasurer of the county Republican party, Roy Giddens Jr,. that being a cross-dresser wouldn't harm Wall's electability, adding "There are lots of them. People think J. Edgar Hoover was one of the greatest Americans that ever lived".

Folks, you just can't make this stuff up.

I don't think the "laughing my head off" was meant to be literal.

Those who knew Martin Luther beyond the cameras have said repeatedly that he was given to making extremely off-color remarks about his opposition, telling extremely inappropriate jokes, etc. - many of them of a religious or racial nature.
